The sower and the seed Part I (Matthew 13:1-9) | back

The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side. Christ again using the subject matter of nature and trees will be translated "seeds" which is the Word of God.

And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. He would use this area because it formed a natural amp-theatre where a large crowd to hear.

And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; The Sower in the days of old would carry a bag of seed and throw it from side to side by hand. Remember here that the seed represents the Word of God.

And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: The wayside was a path that people walked on and was frequently traveled. Matted down if you will, and would not be good for growing anything so the birds just ate up the seed.

Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: They could not form any root system. Just as when a Christian may pass onto another a Word of truth, they do not listen or research the Word and lose the truth. The truth never took just as the seed never formed it's root system.

And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. They just died. Again, if someone takes no interest in a truth of God's Word it will just wither away in their mind.

And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: Just choked out the good seed. Just like false teachings and traditions of men will do to a person when they are deceived.

But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. God does not award by how much. Every person is awarded by their God given ability and faithfulness to our Heavenly Father.

Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. Do you hear?
