The alert servant (Mark 13:33-37) | back

Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. Be on watch for the return of Christ because no on knows when it will be. It was Peter, James, John, and Andrew that got together alone with Jesus and asked Him this question about His return.

For the Son of Man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. Jesus gave His disciples authority and work to do while He was gone and told them to watch for signs of His return. His command for them to keep watch, just as the gate keeper.

Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning. Again His command was to keep a sharp lookout because no one knows the time when He would return. It could be in the morning, afternoon, or in the evening.

Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. Don't let Him find you sleeping at His return. Keep in mind that the Anti-Christ comes first. In verse 34, Christ gives us work to do. Part of that work is to be able to discern the truth in the Word so that we are not deceived.

And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch. Watch for my return! This is the message for us all.
