The good shepherd (John 10:1-18) | back
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. Anyone refusing to walk through the gate into the sheepfold, and sneaks over the wall, is like a thief and a robber. Their is no shortcut to heaven and you must go through Christ. (Spiritually speaking, Christ is the gateway to heaven and you must enter through Him).
But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. Christ is the Head Shepherd; anyone who comes through the door is through Christ.
To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. The gatekeeper opens the gate for the sheep and they hear His voice as He leads them out. (Christ is always in front and the one to follow).
And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. He walks ahead of them and they follow Him, because they recognize His voice. His voice is the Word of God. (Hear it, know it, follow it)!
And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. They won't follow a stranger, but will run from him, because they do not recognize his voice. (Don't follow someone who does not know the Word of God; but would rather teach doctrines of men, false teachings, and traditions).
This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them. They did not understand exactly what Jesus meant, so He is going to explain it to them.
Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. I am the gate for the sheep Jesus said. (He is the way and the only way in).
All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. All the others who came before Me were thieves and robbers. The true sheep did not listen to them. (The elect only follow Christ because they are His sheep and they can spot false teachers).
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. I am the Gate! Those who come in by the Gate will be saved, going in and out and find green pastures. (Those green pastures are spiritual food). A pastor always feeds the sheep truth; and the truth shall set you free! (Totally free; not in bondage from false teachings and traditions of men).
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. The thief's purpose is to steal, kill, and destroy. My purpose is to give life in all it's fullness. Christ being that fullness in the Word of God. (Satan is the thief and the destroyer).
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. Christ was crucified for the sins of the world. (A good shepherd will die for his sheep).
But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. A hired man will run off when he sees the wolf coming, and will leave the sheep, because they are not his, and he is not their shepherd. Then the wolf jumps on them and scatters the flock. (You can't count on someone who is just in it for the money)! They are not a true shepherd.
The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. The hired man will run because he has no real concern for the sheep. (Just as one who feeds the people false teachings and traditions of men).
I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. I am the good Shepherd and know my own sheep, and they know me. (Christ knows who He can count on from the beginning).
As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. Just as My Father knows Me and I Know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.
And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. I have other sheep too, in another place. I must bring them also, and they will heed my voice; and there will be one flock with one Shepherd. (Christ will gather His flock from all the way back to the beginning).
Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. The Father loves Me because I lay down My life, that I may have it back again. (Christ has the power to defeat death)!
No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. No one can kill Me without my consent; I lay down My life voluntarily. I have the right and the power to lay it down when I want, and also the right and power to take it again. "The Heavenly Father has given Me this right." (Guaranteed by the Almighty God)!
