The spirit of truth (John 16:1-16) | back
These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. I have told you these things so you won't be offended by all that lies ahead. This word "offended" used here is "scandalize," (to entrap, trip up, or entice to sin). Don't let the world scandal you!
They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. You might be excommunicated from a church for believing and teaching the truth. Those that may kill you will think they are doing God a service.
And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. They do these things because they have never known the Father or Me. (If you participate in false religions and traditions of men, you don't know the Father or His Word).
But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you. I'm telling you these things now so that when it happens you will remember that I warned you. I did not tell you earlier because I was going to be with you for a while.
But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? But now I am going away to the one who sent Me; but none of you seem interested or wonder why I am going.
But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. Instead you are filled with sorrow. (Always looking at the bad side). Christ wanted them to look at the good side of it!
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. The promise of the "Comforter," is the good side. That is a promise that Christ made to us all.
And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment. When the Comforter comes He will convince the world of it's sin, and the availability of God's goodness, and deliverance form judgment.
Of sin, because they believe not on me. Sin is to transgress the law of God. Their sin was that they did not believe in Christ.
Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more. Christ went to sit at the right hand of the Father, to be between you and the world.
Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. There is deliverance from judgment because the prince of this world has already been judged. Satan is the prince of this world and the father of the kenites! (John 8:44), Satan is already sentenced to death! (Ezekiel 28:18-19), We have deliverance from this judgment because Christ defeated death.
I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. I have so much more to tell you, but you can't understand it now. (It will all come together at Christ's return, because I believe that no man can understand the full plan of God in the flesh).
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. When the Holy Spirit comes, He will guide us to all truth, even into the future. (He will show us the revelation and even speak through us when the time is right).
He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. He shall praise Me and bring honor by showing you My glory. (The Holy Spirit is from the Father).
All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All the Father's glory is mine and He will show it to you. (The Holy Spirit will bring you understanding; just ask Him).
A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father. In a little while I will be gone, and you will see Me no more; but a little while after that you will see Me again. (Christ would be with them for 40 days, then He would resurrect to the Heavenly Father). As soon as Christ resurrected, the Comforter (Holy Spirit) came to bring new life to all that will.
