Light of the world (John 8:12-59) | back

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. Christ is the light! The light that shines within us so that we never walk in darkness. The light that guides us so we always find our way. The light that teaches us so we can learn with understanding. He is the light of life!

The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true. The Pharisees accused Him of building Himself up. We see so many people today that think they are so great and always build themselves up. But Christ was the real deal! He did not need to build Himself up. He had the knowledge and works to prove who He was.

Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go. Jesus told them that these claims He had made were true. Jesus said; I know where I come from and where I am going, but you don't know this about me. (A valid record of Himself).

Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man. You just look at the outside and judge me. I am not judging you now!

And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. If I did judge you now it would be an absolutely correct judgment in every respect, for I have with me the Father who sent me. (One in the same).

It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. Your own laws say that if two men agree on something that has happened, their witness is accepted as fact. (The scripture is a witness).

I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me. "I am one witness, and My Father who sent me is the other."

Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also. Where is your Father? They asked. Jesus answered, "You don't know Me, so you don't know who My Father is. If you knew Me, then you would know Him too." (Talking to the Kenites; two separate fathers here).

These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come. Jesus made these statements while He was in the section of the temple known as the treasury. But He was not arrested, because it was not His time. (He spoke these things right in the midst of those who wanted to kill Him). Devine intervention by almighty God!

Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come. Later Jesus said to them; I am going away and you will search for me, and die in your sins. You cannot come where I am going! (Jesus was telling them that in their frame of mind, they won't be in heaven).

Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come. They thought that Christ was going to commit suicide because they didn't understand His statement; "You cannot come where I am going." (The tribe of Judah; how ignorant they really were).

And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. Then Jesus said to them, "you are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not."

I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. That is why I said you will die in your sin Jesus said to them. Unless you believe that I am the Messiah (the Son of God), you will die in your sins.

Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning. Then the Jews demanded that He tell them who He was. Jesus replied, "I am the one I have always claimed to be."

I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. I could expose and judge you to hell right now, but I did not come for that. I could teach you much, but I won't! For I only do the will of the one that sent me; and He is true.

They understood not that he spake to them of the Father. They still didn't understand that He was talking to them about God.

Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. When you kill me, then you will know that I am the Messiah, and what I have been telling you is not of my own ideas, but what the Father has taught me.

And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. He who sent Me is with Me; He has not deserted Me, because I always do the things that please the Father. God will never leave or forsake you! (Hebrews 13:5), (If you do the will of the Heavenly Father).

As he spake these words, many believed on him. Then many of the Jewish leaders that heard Him say these things began to believe that He was the Messiah.

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed. Then Jesus said to those who believed on Him, you are truly my disciples if you live as I tell you. (In other words; Hang on to what I teach you)!

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Knowing the truth will set you free. Free from what? (Free from bondage, denominationalism, deception, false teachings and traditions of men).

They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? But we are descendants of Abraham they replied; We have never been slaves to any man on earth! What do you mean, set free? Abraham's seed was in bondage for 400 years, (Genesis 15:13, Exodus 12:40, Acts 7:6), but they were not of Abraham's seed.

Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. Jesus replied, "You are slaves of sin, every one of you."

And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. Slaves don't have rights, but the Son has every right there is. (If your a slave to sin, you won't be in heaven).

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. If the Son of God sets you free, you will indeed be free! Don't be in bondage to sin, false teachings, and traditions of men. (Christ is the "Living Word" the real "truth in the Word" and the truth shall set you free)! And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32).

I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. I realize that you are of Abraham's seed, and yet some of you are trying to kill me because my message does not find a home within your hearts. (Because their hearts are with someone else). Lets see who!

I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. "I tell you what I saw when I was with my Father; But you are following the advice of your father." (Notice the lower case (f) used here for their father). Satan is their father!

They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. Our father is Abraham, they declared. "No!" Jesus replied; if he were you would follow his good example and do the works of Abraham. (They were not of Abraham)!

But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. Now you seek to kill me because I told you the truth I heard from God. Abraham would never do a thing like that!

Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. You are obeying your real father when you act that way. (Again notice the lower case (f) of their father). They replied to Jesus, "we were not born out of wedlock, our true Father is God Himself."

Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Jesus told them, "If that were true that God is your Father, then you would love Me, because I come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but because God has sent Me. (Christ's ability was given by God).

Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Why can't you understand what I am saying? It is because you are prevented from doing so! (They could not believe the truth because they were not of the true Father).

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. Christ told them; You are of your father the devil and you love to do the evil things he does. Your father was a murderer from the beginning and a hater of the truth. "There is not one iota of truth in him." When he lies it is perfectly normal; because he is the father of liars." (Speaking of the father of the Kenites, or the offspring of Cain). His offspring being the Kenites, or "Son's of Cain." Later, the kenites would settle in the land of Canaan. (Genesis 15:19-21) You can make the connection by taking the word kenite/kenites back to the Hebrew language in your Strong's Concordance #7017 and #7014 (Hebrew and Chaldee dictionary). Many of their offspring mixing with the other tribes such as the Hittites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Canaanites. The Book of Chronicles also speaks of the kenites being the families of the Scribes. And the families of the scribes which dwelt at Jabez; the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, and Suchathites. These are the Kenites that came of Hemath, the father of the house of Rechab. (I Chronicles 2:55). Jeremiah 24 speaks of the Kenites as the bad figs. The two churches that Christ approved of (Smyrna and Philadelphia), taught about the Kenites. (Revelation 2:9, 3:8).

And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. When I tell you the truth, naturally you don't believe it! (Still addressing the Kenites).

Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? Which of you can truthfully accuse Me of one single sin? No one! Since I'm telling you the truth, why don't you believe Me? (Christ had no sin)!

He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God. If God was your Father you would listen to the Words of God; but you don't listen, which proves you are not God's children. (They did not believe because they were not of God)!

Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? You Samaritan foreign devil they replied! They were angry and were accusing Jesus of being possessed by a demon! They called Jesus this before. (John 7:20).

Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me. No! Jesus answered them, "I have no demon in Me." I honor my Father; not like you who dishonors Me!

And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth. I am not trying to build a name for Myself Jesus said; God wants this for Me and judges those who reject Me.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death. Hear this! Anyone who obeys Me, shall never die. (This really through them because Christ was speaking spiritually, and they could not see spiritually).

Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death. The leader of the Jews said to Jesus; "Now we know you are possessed by a demon. Even Abraham and the mightiest prophets died, and yet you say that obeying you will keep a man from dying!" (They were still thinking in the flesh).

Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself? So you claim to be greater than our father Abraham, who died? And greater than the prophets who died? Who do you think you are?

Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God. Jesus replied! If I boast about Myself it does not count. But it is My Father who honors Me, the same God you claim to follow.

Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying. You do not even know Him. I do! If I said otherwise, I would be as great a liar as you! But it is true that I know Him and fully obey Him.

Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day come. "He knew I was coming and was glad."

Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Sure you did; the Jewish leaders said! "You aren't even fifty years old and you've seen Abraham!"

Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. "Jesus told them; The truth is that I was in existence before Abraham was ever born!" (Hebrews 7:1-4).

Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. At this point the Jewish leaders picked up stones to cast and kill Him; but Jesus was hidden from them, walked past them and out of the temple. (God's divine intervention)! What a bunch of ignorant hypocrites! They are supposed to be religious leaders and they could not even see that they were in the presence of "The Son of God." What are your religious leaders teaching?
