The Pharisees denounced (Luke 11:37-54) | back
And as he spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat. As Christ was teaching one day, a certain Pharisee invited Christ to his home for a meal.
And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner. When Jesus arrived He sat down to eat without first performing the ceremonial washing required by Jewish custom. This really surprised the host.
And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness. Jesus said to the Pharisee. You Pharisees wash the outside of yourself like a cup and a platter; but your inward self is still dirty and full of greed and wickedness. Like when people sit down to a meal and say grace in front of others to put on a show. It looks holy on the outside, but they are still the same on the inside, with their worldly and evil thoughts.
Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also? Fools! Didn't God make the inside as well as the outside.
But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you. Purity is best demonstrated by your generosity towards others.
But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Woe to you Pharisees who are careful to tithe even the smallest part of your income, but completely forget about the justice and love of God. Yes you should tithe, but don't forget about our Heavenly Father.
Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets. Woe to you Pharisees who love to sit in the seats of honor in the synagogues, and you love the respectful greetings from everyone as they pass you by in the streets
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them. Woe to you scribes and Pharisees; a bunch of hypocrites who's judgment is awaiting. They are like hidden graves in the field. "Men go by you with no knowledge of the corruption they are passing."
Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also. One of scripture lawyers that was standing there said to Jesus. "You have identified and insulted my profession also in what you said."
And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers. Jesus answered the scripture lawyer. The same horror awaits you! "You crush men beneath your impossible religious demands that you cannot even keep yourselves." You never even try to keep them! Sound familiar? What kind of demands does your church put on you? Remember God's Word sets you free from tradition and bondage created by man.
Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. Who to you! You are exactly like your ancestors who killed the prophets long ago.
Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres. Bunch of murderers! You agree with your fathers and what they did. You say it was right and you would have done the same yourselves.
Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute. This is what God says about you! I will send you prophets and apostles and you will kill some of them and chase away the others.
That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation. And you of this generation will be responsible for the murder of God's servants from the foundation of the world. Why are they also responsible? Because they teach the same traditions and falsehoods that their ancestors did.
From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation. From the murder of able by Cain (the first murderer), to the murder of Zechariah who perished between the alter and the sanctuary. It will be charged against you! Who is Jesus talking about here? It is the kenites; the sons of Cain, who is the son of the devil.
Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered. You so called experts in religion! You hide the truth from the people. You won't accept it for yourselves, and you prevent others from having a chance to believe it. What is this "key of knowledge" Christ was talking about? It is the key of David. Read our study topic, "The Key of David."
And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things. These bunch of hypocrites (Scribes and Pharisees), became furious with Jesus because of what he had said to them. They pushed Jesus to say more things about them.
Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him. They hit Him with a bunch of questions, trying to trap Him into saying something for which they could have Him arrested. "They wanted Jesus killed!"0 What a bunch of nice Christian teachers. Not! Do not be deceived by a bunch of hypocrites like these who would keep you in bondage with their traditions and false teachings.
