Isaiah 23
Isa 23:1 The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them. Tyre: Capital of the ancient Phoenician empire. It had rejoiced in the misfortunes of Judah. Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant. (Amos 1:9). The Lord says: The people of Tyrus (Tyre, now e.g. Sur), have sinned again and again also, and will not go unpunished! (Isaiah 23:1-18, Jeremiah 47:4, Ezekiel 26:28, Joel 3:4-5). They broke their treaty of brotherhood (a covenant of brethren) with Israel, selling the whole villages as slaves to Edom. (II Samuel 5:11, I Kings 5:1-11, 9:11-14). So, Tyre is punished by the same king of Babylon. (Ezekiel 26:2-21). Ships of Tarshish: Know for great natural resources. (1 Kings 10:22, 2 Chronicles 9:21). House: Here used as port. Chittim: Originally used as Cyprus, but extended to the islands and coast-lands of the Mediterranean. It: i.e. the fall of Tyre. When the ships of Tarshish were on their way to Tyre, they stop at Cyprus and hear the news about what had happened.
Isa 23:2 Be still, ye inhabitants of the isle; thou whom the merchants of Zidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished. Isle: Here, Tyre itself. Zidon: Also called Sidon. Another major city of the Phoenicians. (Brought to silence because of the news about Tyre). Now, lets take a little stroll into the past and future about Tyre (Tyrus). Who is symbolic of the "prince of Tyrus?" (Satan). Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God. (Ezekiel 28:2). Ezekiel 28 speaks of Satan wanting to be like God. It goes back to the beginning during the downfall of Satan in the first earth age, then goes on to describe Satan's destruction in the future when he sits in the holy place claiming to be God. Lets turn to the book of 2 Thessalonians. Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. (2 Thessalonians 2:4). He will defy God and will try to take the place of God, sitting in the temple of God in Mount Zion. (Isaiah 14:12-16). Matthew 24 gives a good description. When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) (Matthew 24:15). When you see the horrible thing standing in the holy place spoken by Daniel the prophet. (Daniel 9:27, 11:31, 12:11) Remember that Satan is coming first as anti-Christ, and he comes in peace. (Daniel 11:21). This prince (the anti-Christ), will make a seven-year treaty with the people, but after half that time, he will break his pledge and stop all the sacrifices. (The daily offering or communion). He will defile the sanctuary of God as the desolator. (Mark 13:14-26) This seven years will be shortened to five months, as stated in Revelation 9, for the elects sake.
Isa 23:3 And by great waters the seed of Sihor, the harvest of the river, is her revenue; and she is a mart of nations. Sihor: The black river, or another name for the Nile River. Mart of nations: Kind of like Walmart or Sam's club to the ancient world.
Isa 23:4 Be thou ashamed, O Zidon: for the sea hath spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I travail not, nor bring forth children, neither do I nourish up young men, nor bring up virgins. Zidon: (Sidon), A seaport and mother city of Phoenicia, the granary of Egypt's harvest. The sea talking to Sidon as if there never was a Tyre. (It is gone).
Isa 23:5 As at the report concerning Egypt, so shall they be sorely pained at the report of Tyre. When the report hits Egypt, they will be worried (in terror) too. In the future sense it will be like Babylon of the end times: For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, (Revelation 18:17). All commerce is done away with. (We don't need the merchants any longer). And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city! (Revelation 18:18). Where else in the world is such a great city. This harlot or false religion! (She is a giant rip-off). And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate. (Revelation 18:19). She made us all rich with her great wealth and false teachings and in one hour it is all gone.
Isa 23:6 Pass ye over to Tarshish; howl, ye inhabitants of the isle.
Isa 23:7 Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? her own feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn. Feet: The vessels in which the Tyrians fled from Nebuchadnezzar. (Ezekiel 26:7).
Isa 23:8 Who hath taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honourable of the earth? "The king makers." God would bring disaster on Tyre.
Isa 23:9 The LORD of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth. God destroys its pride and brings it down. Just as in the end times with Babylon. (Jeremiah 51:62).
Isa 23:10 Pass through thy land as a river, O daughter of Tarshish: there is no more strength. Tyre is defenseless.
Isa 23:11 He stretched out his hand over the sea, he shook the kingdoms: the LORD hath given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy the strong holds thereof. The merchant city: Tyre, or the Phoenician coast. (Canaan merchant traffic). The Phoenicians called their land Canaan. (Genesis 10:15-19). Destroy her strongholds. And Tyrus did build herself a strong hold, and heaped up silver as the dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets. (Zechariah 9:3). Tyre (the capital of the Phoenicians), had built a strong fortress and was loaded with silver and gold. The Phoenicians were known for their ship building and because of it's great ships it was a city of merchants, and very wealthy from trade. Behold, the Lord will cast her out, and he will smite her power in the sea; and she shall be devoured with fire. (Zechariah 9:4). The Lord will strip away all her positions and destroy her power, and it will be burned to the ground. (Amos 1:10). The Assyrians tried to lay siege to Tyre but they gave up. Nebuchadnezzar tried to capture Tyre for over 13 years, but the people moved the city to an island off shore. Then Alexander pushed all the rubble into the ocean (left over from Nebuchadnezzar's siege of the city), and built a land bridge out to the island where it conquered the city.
Isa 23:12 And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice, O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon: arise, pass over to Chittim; there also shalt thou have no rest. Daughter: The Sidonians, when their city was taken by the king of Ascalon, betook themselves to their ships; and landed and built Tyre;" Sidon (Zidon), was therefore the mother city. (Isaiah 23:2, Genesis 49:13).
Isa 23:13 Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not, till the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up the towers thereof, they raised up the palaces thereof; and he brought it to ruin. This people was not: i.e. Assyria. Object-lesson and warning to Tyre.
Isa 23:14 Howl, ye ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste. "You port is destroyed."
Isa 23:15 And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot. Seventy years: (Jeremiah 25:9-11, 27:2-7). From the first year of Nebuchadnezzar (496 B.C.) to the conquest of Babylon by Cyrus (426 B.C.). One: Hebrew H259 "echad" a compound unity, "one" of a dynasty, here, "the Babylonian dynasty." (Jeremiah 27:3-7, 29:10).
Isa 23:16 Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered. Tyre back in business again.
Isa 23:17 And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth. God would give Tyre another chance, but she was no different than before. She would be a prostitute to all the kingdoms of the world. Future prophecy of the harlot: Lets go to the book of Revelation. With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. (Revelation 17:2). These are earthly kings here. He is speaking about religious fornication, better know as idolatry. False teachings and worship of things that they should not. So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. (Revelation 17:3). She looks so holy and religious, but has blasphemies against God written all over her. The seven heads and ten horns is a political system which teams up with the church. (Revelation 13:1). And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: (Revelation 17:4). "Her idolatry." The woman is a city or group of people. Babylon, the city or state of confusion.
And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. (Revelation 17:5). She is the mother of prostitutes and of idol worship, the harlot that whores around with Satan. Mystery in the Strong's #3466 is (Musterion), initiation of religious rights. The religious rights of Satan. As explained in (2 Thessalonians 2:7-12), the mystery of iniquity doth already work and will be revealed. But God will send many a strong delusion that they should believe a lie. (The apostasy). Falling away from the true religion or Christ. (They don't know any better and follow antichrist when he returns first).
Isa 23:18 And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the LORD, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing. In the end, all her profits will be given to the Lord.
Isaiah 24
Isa 24:1 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof. A great shaking is coming. Judgment on Israel and upon the earth in the end times. Scattereth abroad: The twelve tribes of Israel. (Jeremiah 50:17). The Assyrian took the ten northern tribes captive and Nebuchadnezzar took Judah captive and they were scattered. (James 1:1). Prophecy of the end times: Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the Lord of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones. (Zechariah 13:7). Smite the Shepherd and the sheep will scatter. The fulfilling of: (Isaiah 53:5-10). And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. (Zechariah 13:8). Two thirds of the people in the land will be cut off and die, but one third of the people will be left in the land. Many will die, but a remnant of Gods elect will be saved. (Joel 2:31-32, Matthew 24:22, Mark 13:20, Romans 11:26). And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God. (Zechariah 13:9). I will bring that remnant through the fire and make them pure. They will call on My name, and I will answer them. (Romans 10:12-14, Hebrews 8:10, Revelation 21:7).
Isa 24:2 And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. No favorites and no advantage to any special position in society. Judgment will be upon all the people. And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings. (Hosea 4:9). "What the priest do the people also do." (Matthew 15:14), The blind leading the blind. "I will punish both priests and the people for their evil doings says the Lord!" (Jeremiah 5:31, 23:11-12). "Don't put your trust and security in man, put it in Christ."
Isa 24:3 The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word. Emptied: Hebrew H1238 "baqaq" to pour out, to empty, make void. (Ezekiel 36:4). God did it once before in the first earth age and He will do it again.
Isa 24:4 The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish. The earth dries up and crops waste away. Even the greatest people on earth will be weak. (Jeremiah 4:28, 12:4, Hosea 4:3).
Isa 24:5 The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. The people sin and have twisted God's instruction, His everlasting covenant broken. (Genesis 9:16). They lay aside the commandments of God (even the ten commandments), and keep traditions of men. (Mark 7:7-9). Did you know that one of the largest religious denominations out there has even changed the ten commandments to suit their own traditions and doctrine? Do a little research and see who you come up with.
Isa 24:6 Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left. Destroyed by fire: But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. (2 Peter 3:10). Be on guard and know the season for His return, when all evil (all the wicked & rudiments) will be burned up. Judgment Day! Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness. (2 Peter 3:11). What should you do to be prepared? Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? (2 Peter 3:12). Looking forward to the day of the Lord when He will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt in the flames. Remember that God is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:29), and He will destroy this Heaven and Earth age, for there is a "new" heaven and "new" earth age to come.
Isa 24:7 The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do sigh. The grape vines waste away (dried up), and it's a time a sadness instead of joy. (Hosea 9:1-2), Because they were unfaithful to God following false doctrine and traditions of men. (No good fruit produced).
Isa 24:8 The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth. The cries of celebration are heard no more. (Revelation 18:22), because there is no truth in them.
Isa 24:9 They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it. The joy of wine and strong drink will turn bitter in the mouth. Party day over! And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day. (Amos 8:10). On that day, I will turn your celebrations into mourning and your singing into weeping. You will cry as if your only son has just died. A very bitter day that will be. "In that day there will be a famine in the land." Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD. (Amos 8:11). That famine for hearing the Word of the Lord is upon us now. People are starving for the truth in the Word, not a bunch of fairy tales, false teachings and traditions of men that are taught in most churches today.
Isa 24:10 The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in. A "void" and broken down city. What is the city of confusion in the end times? "Babylon." And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. (Revelation 17:5). She is the mother of prostitutes and of idol worship, the harlot that whores around with Satan. Mystery in the Strong's #3466 is (Musterion), initiation of religious rights. The religious rights of Satan. As explained in (II Thessalonians 2:7-12), the mystery of iniquity doth already work and will be revealed. But God will send many a strong delusion that they should believe a lie. (The apostasy). Falling away from the true religion or Christ. (They don't know any better and follow anti-Christ when he returns first). And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. (Revelation 17:6). Totally amazed at a fake religion.
Isa 24:11 There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone. People crying in the streets for wine. And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they assemble themselves for corn and wine, and they rebel against me. (Hosea 7:14). They don't cry to Me with sincere hearts. Instead, they sit on their couches and wail, begging other gods for grain and new wine, and turn from Me. (Joel 1:5). All joy is darkened: (Amos 5:16-20).
Isa 24:12 In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction. City left in ruins. (Jeremiah 9:11), There will be no truth or justice there and they will be spiritually dead.
Isa 24:13 When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done. Take the word "shaking" back to the Hebrew: H5363 "noqeph" meaning a threshing. (Many will die during the tribulation). And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth. (Revelation 6:8). We are speaking here of the "Beast System" that looks so religious, but is controlled by Satan. (Remember that Satan represents death). And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. (Matthew 24:22). In fact, unless those days are shortened, all mankind will perish. But, for the sake of God's chosen, those days will be shortened. (Speaking of the 1,290 days of Daniel 12:11) The time of the locust army that will be shortened to a five month period. (Revelation 9:5, 9:10), time of the locust is May through September, this is also the time of Passover to the Feast of Tabernacles. Here's the thing... We have so many people out there that think they can live by the ways of the world, party their life away, until the tribulation of the end time, and then just turn to Christ for forgiveness and get serious about God. "I don't think so." They are spiritually dead and don't even know that the false Christ comes first to deceive as many as possible. "Not by war my friend, but by peace." And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. (Daniel 8:23). Toward the end of their kingdoms, when all has become morally rotten, a fierce king shall rise. A reference to Antiochus Epiphanes, (A type referring to anti-Christ). But, we are talking future here in the later times. This refers to the anti-Christ, the false messiah. And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. (Daniel 8:24). He comes in peaceably and prosperously and he will try to destroy anyone who opposes him. (If it were possible). God's elect will not be destroyed.
Isa 24:14 They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the LORD, they shall cry aloud from the sea. All who are left (the righteous ones, God's elect), shout and sing for joy. (Singing the song of Moses). Don't be deceived. Those who remain faithful during the tribulation period are the one who are not deceived by antichrist.
Isa 24:15 Wherefore glorify ye the LORD in the fires, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea. Praise the Lord in the eastern lands (where the light rises), and give glory to the Lord, in the lands beyond the sea. (Zechariah 2:10).
Isa 24:16 From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously. Songs of praise from the ends of the earth are heard, but deceit still prevails, and treachery is everywhere. (Don't listen to mans lies).
Isa 24:17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth. No escape for the unrighteous. (They have been deceived).
Isa 24:18 And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake. Those who flee in terror will fall into a trap. Those who escape the trap will be caught in a snare. They go from one false teaching to another because they "can't handle the the truth." If you want to follow false teachings, go ahead, God will let you. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie. (2 Thessalonians 2:11). If you want to be ignorant of God's Word and follow lies, deception, and traditions of men; God will send you strong delusion to believe those lies. He will close your eyes to the truth. (Isaiah 29:10) Look at how people are so comfortable with their teachings. Comfortable with their spirit of slumber.
Isa 24:19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly. In the end times the earth will be violently shaken. It happened before and it will happen again. (Jeremiah 4:23-28).
Isa 24:20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again. The earth (the one world political system), will stagger like a drunk. It will tremble like a tent in a storm.
Isa 24:21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth. In that day: The Lord's day. He will punish the high ones (disobedient angels), and the kings (rulers of the earth).
Isa 24:22 And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited. Satan will be put into prison at the return of Christ. (Revelation 20:1-3). After the 1,000 years (the millennium), he will be let lose for a while. Later he will be cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:10). Those who are spiritually dead and follow Satan will also be cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 13-15). So, for those of you who think it is "so cool" to openly follow Satan, your in for a big surprise. Satan is the loser.
Isa 24:23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously. At the return of the true Christ, the moon and the sun will fade compared to the brightness of Christ's return. "The glory of God will be all we need to light the whole earth." And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. (Revelation 21:23). The Shekinah Glory! Jesus would say... "I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD." (John 12:46).
Isaiah 25
Isa 25:1 O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth. Isaiah reflecting on these seven things. Not for a "play on words," but for solemn emphasis to attract our attention. O Lord "Yahveh," my God "Elohiym," exalt thee "raise or lift up," praise thy name "revere or worship," done wonderful things "accomplished miracles," counsels of old "advice from above," faithfulness and true "stable, secure, and true." (Revelation 7:12, 15:3, 19:11). "Seven meaning spiritual completeness."
Isa 25:2 For thou hast made of a city an heap; of a defenced city a ruin: a palace of strangers to be no city; it shall never be built. A fallen city of foreigners shall never be built. Speaking of the fall of Babylon (the harlot religious system) of the end times because of her fornications with all nations. (Revelation 18:2-3, 18:19).
Isa 25:3 Therefore shall the strong people glorify thee, the city of the terrible nations shall fear thee. The heathen nations (who come against Jerusalem), will fear the Lord when they see the judgment God brings to the world. (Ezekiel 39:21-22, Zechariah 14:16, Revelations 11:15-17).
Isa 25:4 For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall. The Lord is there with strength for the poor and the needy. (Zephaniah 3:12, James 2:5). When you are humble and feel poor and needy, then God will help you. When you don't think you need God's help, that is when you are in trouble. (Let God be your wall and no one can hurt you).
Isa 25:5 Thou shalt bring down the noise of strangers, as the heat in a dry place; even the heat with the shadow of a cloud: the branch of the terrible ones shall be brought low. He will silence the roar of the foreign nations and the ruthless people are stilled. Who are these "terrible ones?" The enemies of God. (Revelation 16:1-19). Who leads them? The false Christ (antichrist), "Satan." (Daniel 11:36-45, Revelation 20:8-9).
Isa 25:6 And in this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined. In Jerusalem, God's holy mountain (mount Zion), there will be a "party of all parties." (Jews and Gentiles alike). If you like to party, you don't want to miss this one. (The best food, wine, and party favors).
Isa 25:7 And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations. He will remove the shadow of death that hangs over the earth.
Isa 25:8 He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it. God will swallow up death forever! Who represents death? "Satan of course." Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil. (Hebrews 2:14). Just as God's children are human beings, Christ came in the flesh like us humans so He could die and break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. (Isaiah 25:8, Hosea 13:14, I Corinthians 15:54-55, II Timothy 1:10).
Isa 25:9 And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation. Those who wait upon the Lord. (Psalm 62:5-7, Micah 7:7, 1 Peter 1:8). Are you waiting for Jesus? Hang firm to the truth and don't be deceived by the antichrist who comes first pretending to be Christ.
Isa 25:10 For in this mountain shall the hand of the LORD rest, and Moab shall be trodden down under him, even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill. Moab: A nation descended from one of the daughter's of Lot who had an incestuous relation with her father. A land characterized by pride and all who oppose God. (Isaiah 16:6). Trampled down like a dunghill and left to rot. Pride: One of Satan's downfalls.
Isa 25:11 And he shall spread forth his hands in the midst of them, as he that swimmeth spreadeth forth his hands to swim: and he shall bring down their pride together with the spoils of their hands. God will end their pride and all their evil works. Speaking of all those who receive the beast mark. (Revelation 19:18-20).
Isa 25:12 And the fortress of the high fort of thy walls shall he bring down, lay low, and bring to the ground, even to the dust. Brought down and demolished, down into the dust. That great city Babylon (confusion). And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all. (Revelation 1:21). The great religious church system shall be thrown down. (This is a combination of the one world religion). All that are teaching false religion and doctrines of men. They will be bundled up into one religion in the end times. Do not be deceived.
Isaiah 26
Isa 26:1 In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah; We have a strong city; salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwarks. In that day: Future for the day of the Lord when these judgments have been accomplished. Our city will have God's walls of salvation (Zechariah 2:5), to protect it. Salvation here is Hebrew H3444 "yshuah" saved, deliverance. "One of the names of Christ." (In chapter 26 we have the song of Judah, in chapter 27 we have the song of Israel).
Isa 26:2 Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in. Nation: Hebrew H1471 "goy goy" foreign nation, Gentile. The gates are open to all who are righteous. (Zechariah 8:20, Acts 2:47, 1 Peter 2:9, Revelation 21:24). And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; (Revelation 5:9). Christ's blood has bought our salvation if we accept it, and all can have eternal life. And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. (Revelation 5:10). Those who have overcome (again the saints) He will gather into His Kingdom. (Revelation: 20:6). And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; (Revelation 5:11). A countless number singing around the throne of God.
Isa 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. He gives you peace (peace of mind), if you trust in Him. (John 14:27, 16:33, Romans 5:1, Ephesians 2:14-16). And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7). You can experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. (That inner peace that we have through the Holy Spirit, assuring us that everything will be alright and God is in control). This word "keep" used here is (Phroureo) in the Greek, Strong's #5432 and it means, (to be a watcher in advance, to guard and protect). The Holy Spirit will guard and protect your heart (soul or self), and spirit (the intellect to the soul or your mind), as you live in Jesus Christ. We need to be watchers and we need to learn to discern the truth of the Word in order to guard and protect against false teaching and traditions of men.
Isa 26:4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength: Our Rock of ages. This is the Rock (Jesus Christ), that the church was built on. "Make sure Christ is your "Rock and Strength" of all ages."
Isa 26:5 For he bringeth down them that dwell on high; the lofty city, he layeth it low; he layeth it low, even to the ground; he bringeth it even to the dust. God humbles the proud and brings down the arrogant. (Jeremiah 50:31-32).
Isa 26:6 The foot shall tread it down, even the feet of the poor, and the steps of the needy. The poor and oppressed people will trample it down. (Malachi 4:3, Luke 10:19, Romans 16:20, James 2:5). And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations. (Revelation 2:26). Those who overcome and hang till the end with truth, He will give the strength. (This applies to all nations of the world).
Isa 26:7 The way of the just is uprightness: thou, most upright, dost weigh the path of the just. The righteous (upright ones, the Zadok, Gods elect), do what is right. (1 John 3:7, 3:10, Psalm 1:6, 11:7).
Isa 26:8 Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O LORD, have we waited for thee; the desire of our soul is to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee. Wait on the Lord and obey His commandments. Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me. (Micah 7:7). Look to the Lord for help. Waiting confidently for God's salvation, and God will hear you. (Psalm 20:7, Psalm 50:15), "Always trust in your Heavenly Father, not man."
Isa 26:9 With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness. Think about Him in the night and seek Him in the morning. For me personally, when I have trouble sleeping at night, I think of things about Jesus and He puts me right to sleep. When I get up in the morning around 4:00 a.m. I work on the ministry for about 3 hours and study His Word. (This makes the rest of the day go a lot smoother). However, in the end times, people will learn the truth. When Jesus comes to judge the earth in the end times, everything will be open to you. "All people will learn what is right." And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. (Revelation 7:14). These are the ones who hung in there through the tribulation and were not deceived by Satan. They did the work they were supposed to do, and they washed their robes with the blood of the Lamb which is Christ. (Those with righteous acts). Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. (Revelation 7:15). These are the ones who serve and work for the Lord, and He shall be with them forever. Yes, there will be plenty of work to be done. There are no free rides! They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. (Revelation 7:16). They will hunger for the "Word" no more, for they will have the truth of God's Word sealed within. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. (Revelation 7:17). Christ will constantly feed them and be their shepherd, leading them to the fountains of living water. When the "Word" is opened up to you, it is such a wonderful thing. Study His Word and exercise the spirit.
Isa 26:10 Let favour be shewed to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the LORD. Gods grace is shown to the wicked (the lawless ones), but this does not make them good. Even when some are shown God's kindness, they still continue in their wicked ways and refuse to obey the Lord. What happens to the wicked if they do not change their ways? Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? (Romans 2:4). Our Heavenly Father is kind, tolerant, and long suffering (patient), with all His children to turn from sin. (Psalms 86:15, Isaiah 30:18, John 4:2, I Timothy 1:16, I Peter 3:20). But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God. (Romans 2:5). In other words, when you are stubborn and refuse to turn from sin, you are just hurting yourself. "The day is coming when God's righteous judgment will be revealed." (Ecclesiastes 12:14, II Peter 2:9, 3:7, 12:14, Revelation 6:17). Who will render to every man according to his deeds. (Romans 2:6). God will judge everyone according to what they have done. (Galatians 6:7-8, Revelation 20:12, 22:12).
Isa 26:11 LORD, when thy hand is lifted up, they will not see: but they shall see, and be ashamed for their envy at the people; yea, the fire of thine enemies shall devour them. People just can't see the writing on the door. They don't always see God's judgment coming. (Keep in mind that God uses mother nature and controls our enemies). Look around you my friend and you will see how even this great nation is falling apart. Has God's judgment upon the nations started already?
Isa 26:12 LORD, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works in us. However, the Lord will grant us peace. (Psalm 29:11), "Peace of mind in this world when you are in Christ."
Isa 26:13 O LORD our God, other lords beside thee have had dominion over us: but by thee only will we make mention of thy name. Ruled by tyrants, but you alone we worship.
Isa 26:14 They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish. Those rulers who oppose Israel will never rise again. This word "deceased" here is "rapha," or "Raphaim," always rendered "giants." The Raphaim were the progeny of the fallen angels. They will not rise and are held in prison (1 Peter 3:19), in "chains" (2 Peter 2:4, Jude 6), "reserved" unto judgment and will not rise, but rather be "destroyed," and perished. "They had their chance, but blew it." (See appendix 23 & 25).
Isa 26:15 Thou hast increased the nation, O LORD, thou hast increased the nation: thou art glorified: thou hadst removed it far unto all the ends of the earth. The nation: i.e. "Israel." The future nation of (Matthew 21). Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. (Matthew 21:43). The Kingdom of God will be taken away from them, and will be given to a nation (or those) who will give God His share of the crop. Those who have the truth and please the Father.
Isa 26:16 LORD, in trouble have they visited thee, they poured out a prayer when thy chastening was upon them. When people are in the middle of a tribulation period or in trouble, what do they always do? "They cry out to God in prayer." (Psalm 50:15). Look what happens today when even an unbeliever gets in trouble. Who do they call on? Not the ghost busters... They cry to God for help.
Isa 26:17 Like as a woman with child, that draweth near the time of her delivery, is in pain, and crieth out in her pangs; so have we been in thy sight, O LORD. Referring to the birth-pangs of the "Great Tribulation," which issue in the new nation.
Isa 26:18 We have been with child, we have been in pain, we have as it were brought forth wind; we have not wrought any deliverance in the earth; neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen. They labor and try, but the inhabitants of the world never come to the light. And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. (1 John 5:19). The ways of the world under Satan's power. Lying, cheating, scamming, usury, sexual perversion etc.
Isa 26:19 Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead. Men shall live: Those who die in the Lord will rise. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. (1 Thessalonians 4:14). If we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we must believe that when a Christian dies, God will also bring them with Him. Upon death; the body returns to the dust of the earth and the spirit goes back to the Heavenly Father who gave it. (Ecclesiastes 12-7) When we are absent from this flesh body, our soul (or self), is present with the Lord. (2 Corinthians 5:7-8). For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. (1 Thessalonians 4:15). Those who are alive when the Lord returns will not prevent (or precede), those who are dead because the dead are already there with the Lord. (Read our study topic: Where are the dead). Cast out the dead: The "Raphaim" will not rise. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. (Revelation 20:12). Talking again of the spiritual dead. Those who were never taught the truth. They will be judged according to their works (good deeds), not just by their faith. (This only applies to those in the second resurrection).
And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. (Revelation 20:13). Again, judged by their works. Note: The sea or waters represents the people who give up the spiritually dead. Why? Because we don't want them around. (Those who want to follow Satan). And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. (Revelation 20:14). The second death is the death of the soul. (Matthew 10:28). Blotted out forever! And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:15). Are you in the book of life? Remember that all who are not in the book of life will be blotted out for ever.
Isa 26:20 Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast. Your going to be here during the tribulation of antichrist. Many will go into hiding for a short time while the Lord pours out judgment upon the nations. (Psalm 27:5, 143:9). However, You don't need to fear. Christ will protect you if you are one of His. "Be in Christ and trust in Him."
Isa 26:21 For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain. Punish the inhabitants: The time is near my friend for the Lord to come and punish the people of the earth for their sins. And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, (2 Thessalonians 1:7). God will give you rest when the Lord Jesus returns and appears suddenly from heaven with His mighty angels. Again, here is the subject on how Christ will be revealed at His return in the second advent. In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: (2 Thessalonians 1:8). Taking vengeance on those against God and those who follow Satan. Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; (2 Thessalonians 1:9). They will be punished in everlasting hell; forever separated from the Lord, never to see the glory of His power. When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. (2 Thessalonians 1:10). Again, when He shall come is the subject. Coming to receive His praise for all He has done for us. We will be among those praising Him because of what we have believed. Cover her slain: No longer hide those who have been killed. (Revelation 6:9-11, 16:6, 18:24). There will be no hiding from God. "They will be brought out for all to see."
Isaiah 27
Isa 27:1 In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea. In that day: The Lord's day (period of judgment foretold in Isaiah 26:21). Three aquatic animals mentioned here probably referring to Israel's three great enemies. Assyria (on the Tigris), Babylon (on the Euphrates), and Egypt (on the Nile). Satan behind them all, as their great instigator. Piercing: Fleeing (like the Tigris). Crooked: Tortuous (like the winding Euphrates). Dragon: Crocodile of the Nile, and another name for Satan that will be cast to the earth in the end times by Michael. And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels. (Revelation 12:7). The war in heaven against good and evil. And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. (Revelation 12:8). The dragon looses the battle and is no longer in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Revelation 12:9). This is when Satan is cast out of heaven and into the earth. Up to this period it was just his spirit roaming the earth. Satan will be cast out to the earth just before the return of Christ, the 5 months of tribulation when Satan will be here in the flesh pretending to be Christ. (Mark 13:22-25). Jesus warns us in the seven seals Revelation 6:12-13, and also in Matthew 24:36-38. It will be as in the days of Noah when they were eating, drinking, and marrying with the fallen angels. (Genesis 6) Noah's flood also lasted 5 months. (Revelation 12:7-13).
Isa 27:2 In that day sing ye unto her, A vineyard of red wine. Reference to the parable of the vineyard of (Matthew 21:33-46, Luke 20:9-18). The vineyard represents Israel of the end times and all those who believe in the Lord, producing good fruit. (Psalm 80:8, Matthew 20:1, John 15).
Isa 27:3 I the LORD do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day. The Lord will water it and watch over it so no one can harm it. God feeds the people everyday if they let Him.
Isa 27:4 Fury is not in me: who would set the briers and thorns against me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together. Briers and thorns: The internal enemies of the vineyard. God is not angry at His vineyard (1 Thessalonians 5:9), just the enemies within. (Matthew 4:3, 3:12, Hebrews 6:8).
Isa 27:5 Or let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; and he shall make peace with me. i.e. If the enemies of God want to keep from the wrath, let them make peace with Him.
Isa 27:6 He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit. Israel will be settled permanently in the land and the vine will produce good fruit. Since 1948, Israel has been reestablished in the land.
Isa 27:7 Hath he smitten him, as he smote those that smote him? or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that are slain by him? God treats His enemies a little different from His chosen people. His enemies He will destroy, His people He will correct.
Isa 27:8 In measure, when it shooteth forth, thou wilt debate with it: he stayeth his rough wind in the day of the east wind. God exiled Israel to call her to account. God is always cautious, fair and exact in His discipline. If God disciplines you, He will never give you more then you can handle. (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Isa 27:9 By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up. There are good and bad altars. God will crush all the bad altars to dust. (Those used to worship idols and false gods). False teachers and false doctrines of churches in the end times will stand no more.
Isa 27:10 Yet the defenced city shall be desolate, and the habitation forsaken, and left like a wilderness: there shall the calf feed, and there shall he lie down, and consume the branches thereof. The cities that were enemies of God. "Like Mystery Babylon of the end times." (Revelation 17 & 18).
Isa 27:11 When the boughs thereof are withered, they shall be broken off: the women come, and set them on fire: for it is a people of no understanding: therefore he that made them will not have mercy on them, and he that formed them will shew them no favour. Foolish people with no understanding. Spiritually dead! (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9). "Hopefully they will have a change of heart and come to the Lord in the millennium."
Isa 27:12 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall beat off from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel. In that day: The Lord's day. He will gather them one by one. "All those who have gone astray." (Matthew 18:12-14).
Isa 27:13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem. In the last days the last trumpet sounds (the seventh trump), And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. (Revelation 11:15). The seventh and final trump, the return of Christ, and the time we put on our spiritual bodies. The Lord and His anointed shall now rule the world from this day to eternity. (Matthew 24:31).
Isaiah 28
Isa 28:1 Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine! The crown: This chapter begins a new subject, chiefly relating to the devastations of Israel and Judah by the Assyrian kings. The ancient Samaria (the crown), being beautifully situated on the top of a round hill, and surrounded immediately with a rich valley, and then a circle of other hills around it, suggested the idea of a chaplet, or wreath of flowers. (Isaiah 28:3, Hosea 5:5, 6:10). Ephraim: One tribe for all the tribes of Israel. (Being rich and luxuriant).
Isa 28:2 Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one, which as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand. Mighty and strong one: i.e. Assyria (2 Kings 17:5-6). Cast down: To cast Ephraim down.
Isa 28:3 The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, shall be trodden under feet: Samaria will be trampled down beneath it's enemies feet.
Isa 28:4 And the glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley, shall be a fading flower, and as the hasty fruit before the summer; which when he that looketh upon it seeth, while it is yet in his hand he eateth it up. It sits the head of a fertile valley, but it's glory will fade like a flower. Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb. (Hosea 9:16). The people of Israel are struck down. They are all dried up and produce no fruit. Even their children will be spiritually dead. (You can see it going on in churches today). No truth in them because they do not obey the laws of the Lord. Hasty fruit: The boccore (or early fig) draw near to perfection in the middle or latter end of June, than the kermez or summer fig, begins to be formed, though it rarely ripens before August; about which time the same tree frequently throws out a third crop, or winter fig, as we may call it. This is usually of a much longer shape and darker complexion than the kermez hanging and ripening upon the tree, even after the leaves are shed; and, provided the winter proves mild and temperate, is gathered as a delicious morsel in the spring." All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater. (Naham 3:12). All your fortresses will fall and will be devoured. Just as the ripe figs fall into the mouths of those who shake the tree. I the future sense, remember the stars from heaven that fell to the earth and the fig tree that cast her untimely figs in (Revelation 6:13), The figs that are harvested out of season. This is the time when Satan is already on the scene and will be exposed. (666), The sixth seal, the sixth vial, and the sixth trump. Then after these days of the tribulation, "Not before" is when the real Christ shall appear. (Mark 13:24-27) This is when our gathering back to Christ will be. (2 Thessalonians 2).
Isa 28:5 In that day shall the LORD of hosts be for a crown of glory, and for a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of his people, In that day: The Lord's day at Christ's return. He will be the pride and joy of the remnant of His people. (Luke 2:32, 2 Corinthians 4:17, 1 Peter 5:4). And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. (1 Peter 5:4). The reward will be great at the second advent when Christ appears. A crown of never-ending glory and honor.
Isa 28:6 And for a spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment, and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate. He gives a spirit of judgment to those who judge. (1 Corinthians 12:8). He gives courage to their warriors. (Psalm 18:32-34).
Isa 28:7 But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment. They (Judah), are led by staggering drunks. If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people. (Micah 2:11). They didn't want to listen to Micah about turning from sin. They would rather listen to a false prophet that would tell them: "The Lord said that we should all go out and party, getting high and drunk." Believe me, that is what the majority of people today would rather do. They just want to "play church" and then continue to live their lives according to the ways of the world. (Jeremiah 5:31, II Thessalonians 2:11), If you want to be ignorant of God's Word and follow lies, deception, and traditions of men; God will send you strong delusion to believe those lies. He will close your eyes to the truth. (Isaiah 29:10) Look at how people are so comfortable with their teachings. Comfortable with their spirit of slumber.
Isa 28:8 For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean. Tables: Tabernacles full of filth. (Traditions of men and false doctrine).
Isa 28:9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. Who do you think we are that you speak to us as children? They were a bunch of false prophets that could not even understand the milk of the word. (Matthew 11:25, Mark 10:15).
Isa 28:10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: He tells us everything over and over. Mimicking the prophet as though he were teaching little children in a school. The Hebrew used here reads: "For it is zav lazav, zav lazav kav lakav, kav lakav z er sham, z er sham." In english: "Law upon law, Saw upon saw."
Isa 28:11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. If you won't listen to God, He will speak to His people through foreign oppressors who speak a strange language. (1 Corinthians 14:21). In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. The Lord will speak and convey His message through many languages. (Even in their own language which people understand), but they still will not listen.
Isa 28:12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. God told His people through the prophets. "Here is a place of rest." But, they would not listen. (Jeremiah 6:16). Christ is the Godly way. But, they don’t want the true path to victory. Only Christ can give you rest for your soul. (Matthew 11:28-29).
Isa 28:13 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken. God gave them great things, but they took them as strange things. (Hosea 8:12). Now, God will let them stumble at their own words. (Psalm 69:22, Matthew 13:14, 1 Peter 2:7-8).
Isa 28:14 Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem. You better listen to the message from the Lord you scoffing rulers. (Proverbs 29:8).
Isa 28:15 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves: Thinking they are all that! We are talking about the leaders of Judah here. (Jeremiah 5:31). "Trying to hide themselves under lies and deception." Look how many priests and preachers do it today. They get people to trust in lies, deception, and traditions of men as a way to protect themselves. And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil. (Zephaniah 1:12). Search in the darkest corners to punish those who are hiding in their sins. They think God will not find or do anything to them. (You can't hide anything from God, He sees everything).
Isa 28:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. We are speaking of Christ here. He is the foundation and precious corner stone we need to build on. (1 Corinthians 3:11, Ephesians2:20, 1 Peter 2:6-8). We are to be patient, establish ourselves, and wait on the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. (James 5:7-8).
Isa 28:17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place. The Lord will make Judgment the line, and righteousness the plumb-line. (Straight and true). However, people who trust in false teachings and traditions of men will find their squirrely little stories swept away.
Isa 28:18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it. Thinking they made a deal to cheat death. (God cancels their deal)! They might just as well make a deal with the devil, who is death. (They are not going to escape the coming judgment). When the enemy sweeps through, they will be trampled down into the ground. (Malachi 4:1-3).
Isa 28:19 From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand the report. Those flood of lies will bring terror to the people. (Luke 21:25-26). However, the truth (the report), will be known to them through the Lord.
Isa 28:20 For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it: and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it. Your not going to get any real rest when your fighting against the Lord.
Isa 28:21 For the LORD shall rise up as in mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and bring to pass his act, his strange act. Perazim, Gibeon. This could not be known or understood without reference to (2 Samuel 5:17-21, Joshua 10:6-14); and this reference must have been in writing: to long before (700 years) to be a matter of mere memory. God gave His people great victory over the enemy. (See appendix 92).
Isa 28:22 Now therefore be ye not mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth. God is determined to crush the whole land. (The punishment for the scoffers will even be greater). Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you. (Acts 13:41). Look and perish, you despisers of the truth. I am going to do something in your day that you won't believe when you hear it. (Habakkuk 1:5-10). It's coming to this world today, so get ready.
Isa 28:23 Give ye ear, and hear my voice; hearken, and hear my speech. Pay attention! "Here comes a proverb."
Isa 28:24 Doth the plowman plow all day to sow? doth he open and break the clods of his ground? Does a farmer always plow and never sow? Does he always cultivate and never plant?
Isa 28:25 When he hath made plain the face thereof, doth he not cast abroad the fitches, and scatter the cummin, and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and the rie in their place? After plowing a field, a farmer plants his seed in the proper places. (God deals with us as individuals).
Isa 28:26 For his God doth instruct him to discretion, and doth teach him. The farmer knows just what to do because God has instructed him. (Listen to the truth in God's Word before you share a truth with someone). i.e. Know what your talking about.
Isa 28:27 For the fitches are not threshed with a threshing instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned about upon the cummin; but the fitches are beaten out with a staff, and the cummin with a rod. A farmer knows how to treat each crop. A seed planter of the word should know how to handle each individual person. Bring up a new student with milk in the word, and teach the advanced student with meat in the word.
Isa 28:28 Bread corn is bruised; because he will not ever be threshing it, nor break it with the wheel of his cart, nor bruise it with his horsemen. God know what we all need and how to treat each of us according to what we can handle.
Isa 28:29 This also cometh forth from the LORD of hosts, which is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working. God is a wonderful teacher that gives us great wisdom. (Psalms 92:5, Jeremiah 32:19, Daniel 4:2-3). O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! (Romans 11:33). God's riches, wisdom and knowledge are "awesome." It is just impossible for us at this time to understand all His ways.
Isaiah 29
Isa 29:1 Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelt! add ye year to year; let them kill sacrifices. Ariel: (The lion of God, or alter-hearth), speaking of Jerusalem. God is saying, "let them keep adding the sacrifices, but it won't change My mind about the coming trouble."
Isa 29:2 Yet I will distress Ariel, and there shall be heaviness and sorrow: and it shall be unto me as Ariel. God will bring disaster upon Jerusalem, making it what her name Ariel means. "An altar covered with blood."
Isa 29:3 And I will camp against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with a mount, and I will raise forts against thee. Lay siege: Speaking of the siege of Sennacherib against Jerusalem in 701 B.C.
Isa 29:4 And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust. They can't get any lower. The people will be so humbled that it will appear they are speaking from beneath the ground like a ghost (evil spirit), from the grave. (Psalm 44:25, Isaiah 8:19).
Isa 29:5 Moreover the multitude of thy strangers shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the terrible ones shall be as chaff that passeth away: yea, it shall be at an instant suddenly. Your ruthless enemies will be blow away like dust.
Isa 29:6 Thou shalt be visited of the LORD of hosts with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire. Remember that God is a consuming fire. These judgments refer to the deliverance from Jerusalem's enemies. (1 Samuel 2:10, 1 Samuel 12:17-18, 2 Samuel 22:14). As an end time prophecy refer to: (Matthew 24:7, Mark 13:8, Luke 21:11, Revelation 11:13, 11:19, 16:18).
Isa 29:7 And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, even all that fight against her and her munition, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision. Ariel: Here it is plainly Jerusalem. The nations fighting Jerusalem would vanish. Sennacherib, king of Assyria's army (Isaiah 37:33-37). The future picture would be when Christ returns in the end times (second advent), to rescue Jerusalem. Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. (Zechariah 14:1). The day of the Lord, referring to Jerusalem in the end times when Christ returns. (Isaiah 2:11-12, 13:6). For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. (Zechariah 14:2). The nations will fight against Jerusalem. (Referring to the yet future and final siege on Jerusalem). The remnant of the people shall not be cut off. (Zechariah 13:8-9, Matthew 24:22). Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. (Zechariah 14:3). The Lord will fight against those nations that come against Jerusalem. (Isaiah 63:1-6, Revelations 19:11-16).
Isa 29:8 It shall even be as when an hungry man dreameth, and, behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty: or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite: so shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against mount Zion. Hungry and thirsty because there is no truth in them. When the enemies of Jerusalem think about attacking, it will be as if they had a dream; but when they wake up their victory has vanished.
Isa 29:9 Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink. Be blind if you want. You are stupid but not from wine. You stagger, but not from liquor. They stagger from Babble! (They are in a state of confusion).
Isa 29:10 For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered. This is what happens to those who harden their hearts to the Lord. God will send them a spirit of slumber. (Romans 11:8). He will send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie. (2 Thessalonians 2:11-12).
Isa 29:11 And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed: Isaiah is writing all this down, but it is like a sealed book that the people will not understand. Sealed till the end times like in the book of Daniel. (Daniel 12:4, 12:9). Christ would say that many of His teachings would be hidden from the wise and prudent, but revealed to babes. (Matthew 11:25, 13:11). Never underestimate yourself my friend. When you study God's Word, He will reveal things to you that even your priest or pastor may not know. He looks for humble hearts and true followers to reveal His truths.
Isa 29:12 And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned. If the book is opened to those who do not understand, they will say we cannot read. I have come across friends and family members of my own that always want answers from the bible, but they are to lazy to search and study it for themselves. (They come up with; I don't like to read, or I do not understand). In today's generation, everyone wants things handed to them without the work. (Including understanding of the bible).
Isa 29:13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men: The people honor me with their lips, but not their hearts. They worship me with nothing but man-made rules, rituals, and traditions. Looks so good from the outside when they go through the motions, but their hearts are not in it. (Proverbs 30:6, Matthew 15:7-9, Mark 7:6).
Isa 29:14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid. I will astound these hypocrites with amazing wonders and their wisdom of their wise will disappear. The Apostle Paul would say: For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. (1 Corinthians 1:19). God destroys the wisdom of the worldly wise and discards the intelligence of the intelligent. (Isaiah 29:14). Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? (1 Corinthians 1:20). The wisdom of man and the world is just foolish to God. i.e. Those who profess to be wise are just fools. (Isaiah 44:25, Romans 1:22).
Paul continues: For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. (1 Corinthians 3:19). The wisdom of this world means nothing and is just foolish to God. God traps the worldly wise in a trap of their own cleverness. (Isaiah 44:25, Romans 1:21-22, 1 Corinthians 1:19-20, 2:6). And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. (1 Corinthians 3:20). "God knows the thoughts of the worldly wise; and knows that they are worthless." (Psalm 94:11, Romans 1:21). Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours; (1 Corinthians 3:21). Don't get all puffed up and boast about a particular man, pastor, priest or teacher of the word. (1 Corinthians 3:4-7, 4:6). "All knowledge belongs to Christ." (Romans 4:13, 8:28, 8:32). Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; (1 Corinthians 3:22). All knowledge belongs to the many member body of Christ; "not man." (2 Corinthians 4:5, Ephesians 4:11-12), The calling to the ministry to build up the church and body of Christ. "Gods Word is to be freely shared among the whole body of Christ." It is not one mans word, or one churches word to be owned or copyrighted.
Isa 29:15 Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us? The leaders tried to hide their plans from the Lord and say the Lord can't see us... He doesn't know what is going on. "Hide their false teachings and plans in the dark." Why? Because they were evil. (Luke 12"1-3, John 3:19).
Isa 29:16 Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter's clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding? They will even say that God didn't know what He was doing when He made me. Don't fool yourself! God is the creator and He is certainly greater than you. He made every one of His children unique and individually different. God loves all His children.
Isa 29:17 Is it not yet a very little while, and Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be esteemed as a forest? It will be a beautiful and fruitful place at Christ return.
Isa 29:18 And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness. The meek and poor will hear the words and see through the darkness.
Isa 29:19 The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. The humble will be filled (with the truth), the poor will rejoice in the "Holy One" (Jesus Christ), of Israel. (The opposite of what the world calls success).
Isa 29:20 For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off: The scoffers and arrogant will be gone, along with those who plot evil in the world.
Isa 29:21 That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nought. Those who convict the innocent with false testimony. Those who use trickery to pervert justice and tell lies to destroy the innocent.
Isa 29:22 Therefore thus saith the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale. House of Jacob: Concerning all twelve tribes of Israel. The people will no longer be ashamed or turn pale from fear.
Isa 29:23 But when he seeth his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel. When they see all the blessings God has given them, they will recognize the Holy One of Israel.
Isa 29:24 They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine. The spiritual dead will come to understanding, and those who rebel about the Lord will accept instruction of the truth. (Psalm 86:11), walk in the truth of the Lord.
Isaiah 30
Isa 30:1 Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin: They were rebellious children. (Jeremiah 4:17). "Resist the Holy Spirit as so many do today." (Acts 7:51).
Isa 30:2 That walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt! There were some in Judah who wanted to make a treaty with Egypt to help them with the invading Assyrian army. This prophecy had been given in the days of Hezekiah (617-588), and was then being fulfilled in Israel. Alliances not directed by the Spirit of God. They wanted to put their trust in Pharaoh instead of God.
Isa 30:3 Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion. Trust in Pharaoh and you will be humiliated and disgraced. They wanted to trust in man instead of God. (Jeremiah 17:5-6).
Isa 30:4 For his princes were at Zoan, and his ambassadors came to Hanes. Pharaoh's princes were at Zoan (now Zan). Hanes: Called Tahapanes (Jeremiah 2:16). Now "Tell Defenneh," about seventy miles from Cairo, the capital of a minor district. Succeeding Memphis as the capital before Abraham's time. Known to the Greeks as Hiracleopolis Magna.
Isa 30:5 They were all ashamed of a people that could not profit them, nor be an help nor profit, but a shame, and also a reproach. All who trust in him we be ashamed and he will not help you. "Instead he will disgrace you." (Jeremiah 2:36), Egypt will let you down. "God wants you to trust in Him."
Isa 30:6 The burden of the beasts of the south: into the land of trouble and anguish, from whence come the young and old lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they will carry their riches upon the shoulders of young asses, and their treasures upon the bunches of camels, to a people that shall not profit them. The caravan moves slowly across the desert to bring donkeys loaded with treasures to pay Egypt for protection.
Isa 30:7 For the Egyptians shall help in vain, and to no purpose: therefore have I cried concerning this, Their strength is to sit still. The Egyptians sitting still and not giving the help that was being sought. Strength here is: Rahab = pride or strength.
Isa 30:8 Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever: Write down these words in the book. They will stand till the end of time as a witness. (Jeremiah 36:2). What book are we talking about? The Word of God, "the Bible."
Isa 30:9 That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD: These people are stubborn rebels who refuse to pay attention to the law of the Lord. (Instructions contained in the law of Moses). People are stubborn today and don't pay attention to the "Ten Commandments." It is still the law of God today.
Isa 30:10 Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: They want to listen to fairy-tails, lies, and traditions of men to make them feel good. (Jeremiah 5:31, Amos 2:12, Micah 2:11). Sound familiar?
Isa 30:11 Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us. Stop telling us about what God wants, we want to pick and choose what we will listen to. (Romans 8:7, Ephesians 4:18). There are many churches today that follow this method of teaching, trying to tailor their message not to offend people. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears. (2 Timothy 4:3). The time is here now when people won't listen to sound doctrine. They follow teachers that teach traditions on men and feed them whatever they want to hear to make them feel comfortable. And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. (2 Timothy 4:4). They will reject the truth and chase after myths and traditions. How is your church doing? Does it teach traditions of men and fairy-tails?
Isa 30:12 Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and stay thereon: "You would rather be conned by man." Here is what God has to say about that.
Isa 30:13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant. The coming judgment will be like a collapsing wall. In an instant, it will come crashing down. (Matthew 7:27, Luke 6:49).
Isa 30:14 And he shall break it as the breaking of the potters' vessel that is broken in pieces; he shall not spare: so that there shall not be found in the bursting of it a sherd to take fire from the hearth, or to take water withal out of the pit. You will be smashed into tiny pieces like a piece of pottery that is completely shattered. (pieces not even big enough to carry a little water).
Isa 30:15 For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not. At times we go out and try to solve problems on our own (the flesh). However, only returning to God (rest in Him), can we be saved. Put your confidence (trust), and strength (real power), in the Lord.
Isa 30:16 But ye said, No; for we will flee upon horses; therefore shall ye flee: and, We will ride upon the swift; therefore shall they that pursue you be swift. You depend on Egypt to give you horses to ride swiftly in battle, but the only running you will do, will be away from your enemies when they chase you.
Isa 30:17 One thousand shall flee at the rebuke of one; at the rebuke of five shall ye flee: till ye be left as a beacon upon the top of a mountain, and as an ensign on an hill. Here's the thing... God promised them victory over the enemy if they followed and walked close to Him. But, they have strayed from the Lord and now they will suffer defeat. (Take God out of your life and your life will come crashing down).
Isa 30:18 And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him. The Lord will wait for you to come to Him, so He can show His love and compassion. (2 Peter 3:9). God is faithful: (Psalm 84:12, Proverbs 16:20).
Isa 30:19 For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem: thou shalt weep no more: he will be very gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry; when he shall hear it, he will answer thee. He waits for your cry for help. (Psalm 145:18, 1 John 5:14-15).
Isa 30:20 And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers: Difficult times are coming that we will all go through, but we will still have our teacher (Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit), to teach us. He will also send us teachers of truth. (Matthew 9:38, Ephesians).
Isa 30:21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. He will guide you in the correct direction if you listen to Him. (Psalm 32:8).
Isa 30:22 Ye shall defile also the covering of thy graven images of silver, and the ornament of thy molten images of gold: thou shalt cast them away as a menstruous cloth; thou shalt say unto it, Get thee hence. Destroy "all" the things that keep them from the true God. What things are keeping you from the Lord? (Get rid of all the junk and start listening to the truth).
Isa 30:23 Then shall he give the rain of thy seed, that thou shalt sow the ground withal; and bread of the increase of the earth, and it shall be fat and plenteous: in that day shall thy cattle feed in large pastures. The Lord will bless you with planting time and plenty harvest of good fruit. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33). The King and His Dominion. Take action and seek the truth of His Word and make Him first in your life, and He will take care of you.
Isa 30:24 The oxen likewise and the young asses that ear the ground shall eat clean provender, which hath been winnowed with the shovel and with the fan. The oxen and donkeys that till the ground will eat good grain, and the chaff blown away by the wind. Likewise, if you sow good spiritual ground (put in a little effort), you will reap good fruit (truth in the word).
Isa 30:25 And there shall be upon every high mountain, and upon every high hill, rivers and streams of waters in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall. In the Lord's day... Rivers of flowing water. (John 7:38, Revelation 22:1). Towers fall: The towers of Babylon, (confusion will be gone).
Isa 30:26 Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound. The brightness of the Lord at His return. (Revelation 21:23, 22:5). "The Lord will be our light."
Isa 30:27 Behold, the name of the LORD cometh from far, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire: His lips filled with furry and His words a consuming fire. Our God is a consuming fire! (Hebrews 12:29). Coming judgment on the Assyrian army as well as Satan in the last days. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming. (2 Thessalonians 2:8). This wicked one will appear and only be allowed a short time to do his work, till the Lord consumes him with the "Holy Spirit" and destroys him with the brightness of the Lord's presence.
Isa 30:28 And his breath, as an overflowing stream, shall reach to the midst of the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of vanity: and there shall be a bridle in the jaws of the people, causing them to err. God sifts out the proud nations for destruction and leads them away to ruin.
Isa 30:29 Ye shall have a song, as in the night when a holy solemnity is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come into the mountain of the LORD, to the mighty One of Israel. Singing the song of Moses. (Revelation 15:3). Holy solemnity: The Passover. Mighty One = Rock! "Christ is our Rock." (Christ being our Passover).
Isa 30:30 And the LORD shall cause his glorious voice to be heard, and shall shew the lighting down of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones. Reference to the end times: And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail. (Revelation 11:19). The very temple of God in Heaven is opened to us and the Ark of the Covenant could be seen, which is God's contract with us. The thunders, earthquake and hail is when Armageddon is taking place.
Isa 30:31 For through the voice of the LORD shall the Assyrian be beaten down, which smote with a rod. The Assyrians were defeated at the hand of a single angel in 701 B.C. ( 2 Kings 19:35). The Assyrian of the end times is Satan, and he will be beaten down. (He is already sentenced to death).
Isa 30:32 And in every place where the grounded staff shall pass, which the LORD shall lay upon him, it shall be with tabrets and harps: and in battles of shaking will he fight with it. Struck down with the Lord's rod of punishment.
Isa 30:33 For Tophet is ordained of old; yea, for the king it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it. Tophet: A place of fire or cremation. (In the valley of Hinnom). Also known as "Gehenna." (This is where the Jews who worshipped "Molech" had burnt their children in the fires, later turned to a garbage dump). A picture of hell! A place of burning has long been ready for the Assyrian king, and the Lord will set it ablaze. The same will happen to Satan and all who follow him that receive the beast mark. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. (Revelation 19:20).
Isaiah 31
Isa 31:1 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD! They wanted to trust in things of man rather than trusting in the Lord to help them.
Isa 31:2 Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity. The Egyptians may have been crafty in their fighting technique, but the wisdom of the Lord far exceeds their wisdom in everything. "He will rise against the wicked and their helpers."
Isa 31:3 Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together. No matter which way they turn they will fail. When God stretches out His hand in judgment, all involved will be affected. Involved in what? Going against God and not trusting in Him. (Those who work iniquity). Don't put your trust in man. (Psalm 146:3-5).
Isa 31:4 For thus hath the LORD spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the LORD of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof. Just as the lion is not scared of the group of shepherds, our Lord is not afraid of the Assyrians. (Hosea 11:10). So it is in the end times... Our Lord is not afraid of Satan, he was already defeated and is sentenced to die. The Lord will go and fight against the nations that come against Israel in the end times, just as in the day of the Assyrians. (Zechariah 14:3).
Isa 31:5 As birds flying, so will the LORD of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it. As the mother bird spreads her wings to cover her young, throws herself before them, and opposes the rapacious bird that assaults them; so shall Yahveh protect, as with a shield, Jerusalem from the enemy, protecting and delivering, springing forward and rescuing her. Little irony here: God already delivered His people out of Egypt when they were in bondage, now they want to return to Egypt for help. Passing over: Reference to (Exodus 12:13, 23, 27). Again, Christ is our Passover and always protects us.
Isa 31:6 Turn ye unto him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted. Though you are wicked rebels, return to the Lord. Speaking of backsliding people. (Jeremiah 3:22).
Isa 31:7 For in that day every man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made unto you for a sin. In that day... The Lord's day. At the return of Christ, every knee will bow. (All the idols of man will be done away with).
Isa 31:8 Then shall the Assyrian fall with the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword, not of a mean man, shall devour him: but he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be discomfited. It was the angel of the Lord that destroyed the Assyrians here. (Isaiah 37:36). What is the "sword of the Lord" in the end times? For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12). The Word of God is like a double edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit. It will expose our innermost thoughts and desires. (Revelation 1:16), The sharp two edged sword represents the Word of God. The Word can cut deep into our soul and set people straight, or it can teach us and build us up.
Isa 31:9 And he shall pass over to his strong hold for fear, and his princes shall be afraid of the ensign, saith the LORD, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem. Those not killed by the angel of the Lord that night would flee in terror. Reference to the end time prophecy: For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. (Malachi 4:1). Judgment day is coming and the wicked will be burned up like straw. (Matthew 3:12, 2 Thessalonians 1:8, 2 Peter 3:7). Remember that God is a consuming fire. (Hebrews 12:29), He will warm the hearts of His children and destroy those who follow Satan.
Isaiah 32
Isa 32:1 Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment. End time prophecy: Our righteous King is coming "King of Kings and Lord of Lords." (Jeremiah 23:5-6, Zechariah 9:9, Revelation 19:11). Princes shall rule: Those who follow Christ will rule and serve with Christ. (Revelation 2:26-27, 17:14, 1 Corinthians 6:2).
Isa 32:2 And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land. Man: "iysh" a husband-man or steward. Lets go to the book of Micah. And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth. (Micah 5:4). He will lead His flock with the Lord's strength, in the majesty of the name of the Lord His God. His people will live there undisturbed, and He will be highly honored around the world. (He: i.e. the Shepherd of Israel). (Genesis 49:24, Psalm 80:1, Jeremiah 31:10, Ezekiel 34:23). Feed: To tend, or shepherd the flock: (Isaiah 40:11, 49:10). Shall He be great: Psalm 22:27, Psalm 72:8, Psalm 98:1, Isaiah 49:5, Zechariah 9:10, Luke 1:32, Philippians 2:9-11 Revelation 11:15). And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men. (Micah 5:5). He will be a source of peace. When the Assyrians invade the land, we will appoint seven rulers to watch over us, and eight princes to lead us. "The Assyrian is not the Assyrian of Micah's day, but rather a picture of God's enemies in the last days." (Revelation 17:14). Could these seven rulers (shepherds), be seven nations who will assume the responsibility of taking care of Israel during the tribulation? When the time comes the meaning of this will be seen.
Isa 32:3 And the eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken. Eyes to see and ears to hear the truth in the Word. (Jeremiah 31:34, Matthew 13:11). Those who repent will know the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
Isa 32:4 The heart also of the rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly. Even the hotheads will be full of sense and understanding. Stammerers: To stutter or speak inarticulately. i.e. Everyone will be able to understand each other. (Acts 2:4-12).
Isa 32:5 The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful. Vile person: H5036 "nabal" stupid, wicked, or fool. Churl: Cheaters or scoundrels. Look at all the fools and scoundrels we have out their today. Priests, preachers, and teachers, ripping off the people like scoundrels and acting like outstanding citizens.
Isa 32:6 For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail. Speak foolishness and make plans of their evil. (Matthew 12:34-36). They practice ungodliness and spread false teachings. (Matthew 15:19). They leave the people hungry and thirsty for the truth. What is the famine of the end times? Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD. (Amos 8:11). That famine for hearing the Word of the Lord is upon us now. People are starving for the truth in the Word, not a bunch of fairy tales, false teachings and traditions of men that are taught in most churches today.
Isa 32:7 The instruments also of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right. The tricks of these scoundrels are evil. They plot and lie to convict the poor, even when the cause of the poor is just. (Jeremiah 5:26-28). They set traps for the people. "Always taking advantage of the poor." (The wealthy people forget at times who is making them rich), it's the common man (and many of the poor), working hard for a living. Also, referring here to churches with false teachings that make you feel good. Misery loves company, and Satan is misery. They get rich off the people from their begging for money all the time.
Isa 32:8 But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand. This word liberal here is: H5081 "nadiyb" meaning generous, free, noble, and willing hearted. They plan to do what is fair and generous, and they stand firm in their generosity. (2 Corinthians 9:6-11).
Isa 32:9 Rise up, ye women that are at ease; hear my voice, ye careless daughters; give ear unto my speech. Listen... You women (being put for the whole nation), who lie around in ease. Reduced by sin, just enjoying life and not caring about their spiritual state.
Isa 32:10 Many days and years shall ye be troubled, ye careless women: for the vintage shall fail, the gathering shall not come. You will suddenly begin to care in a short time when your fruit crops begin to fail. (No blessings here from God). "Leave God out and you will receive no blessings."
Isa 32:11 Tremble, ye women that are at ease; be troubled, ye careless ones: strip you, and make you bare, and gird sackcloth upon your loins. Gird yourself... (Jeremiah 6:26). You are to put on the gospel armor. (Ephesians 6:10-17). "Being a Christian takes a little work."
Isa 32:12 They shall lament for the teats, for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine. Pleasant fields: Fields of desire. (Ezekiel 20:15).
Isa 32:13 Upon the land of my people shall come up thorns and briers; yea, upon all the houses of joy in the joyous city: This is a picture of the land that has been deserted. (Psalm 107:34). Every thing falls apart because they are not trusting in God. (Take God out of the home and the family falls apart and goes into confusion).
Isa 32:14 Because the palaces shall be forsaken; the multitude of the city shall be left; the forts and towers shall be for dens for ever, a joy of wild asses, a pasture of flocks; The city will be deserted and the busy towns empty. A picture into the future when Babylon has fallen. (Revelation 18:2-3).
Isa 32:15 Until the spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest. The outpouring of the Spirit in the end times. (Joel 2:28-29, Zechariah 12:10). This outpouring of the Holy Spirit is taking place today my friend. People are starving for the truth in the Word. Were in the last days... (Acts 2:17-18).
Isa 32:16 Then judgment shall dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness remain in the fruitful field. Justice and righteousness will rule in the end times. (Hosea 3:5).
Isa 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever. This righteousness will bring peace and quietness forever.
Isa 32:18 And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places; Gods people will live safely and in rest. (Hebrews 4:9). "Make sure you find your rest in Christ." (You can have it right now if you repent and come to the Lord).
Isa 32:19 When it shall hail, coming down on the forest; and the city shall be low in a low place. The city shall be utterly abased. What city? Nineveh, or Babylon of the end times! (Revelation 18:21).
Isa 32:20 Blessed are ye that sow beside all waters, that send forth thither the feet of the ox and the ass. God's people will be blessed and at peace. (James 3:18). Again, make sure your peace comes from the Creator. (He is the only way to real lasting peace).
Isaiah 33
Isa 33:1 Woe to thee that spoilest, and thou wast not spoiled; and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! when thou shalt cease to spoil, thou shalt be spoiled; and when thou shalt make an end to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee. Spoilest: The plunderer. Dealest treacherously: Thou traitor. Sorrow awaits the Assyrians who have destroyed others, but have never been destroyed. Betray other, but never been betrayed. Now both will come upon you. (Revelation 13:10). Who is the spoiler and traitor of the end times? Satan! i.e. Those who try to capture and kill believers in the end times, will be captured and killed themselves. For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled. (Revelation 17:17). God will put a plan into their minds, a plan that will carry out His purpose. IT WILL HAPPEN AS IT IS WRITTEN!
Isa 33:2 O LORD, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble. i.e. Trust in the Lord in trouble times. (Psalm 50:15, 60:11). They wait for the Lord (the true Christ).
Isa 33:3 At the noise of the tumult the people fled; at the lifting up of thyself the nations were scattered. Once the enemy finds out who they are dealing with, "they scatter." Kind of like when a bully meets someone who stands up against him. The bully will always "punk out" and run.
Isa 33:4 And your spoil shall be gathered like the gathering of the caterpiller: as the running to and fro of locusts shall he run upon them. The Assyrian will be stripped away just as the locust strip the fields. Remember the locust army of the end times? And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. (Joel 2:25). Restoration of the house of Judah from the destroying locust army which the Lord has sent among you in the end times. (Zechariah 10:6).
Isa 33:5 The LORD is exalted; for he dwelleth on high: he hath filled Zion with judgment and righteousness. God will make Zion (Jerusalem), His home of justice and righteousness.
Isa 33:6 And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his treasure. Wisdom and knowledge of Gods Word. (Proverbs 14:27).
Isa 33:7 Behold, their valiant ones shall cry without: the ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly. Your brave warriors and ambassadors of peace cry in bitter disappointment.
Isa 33:8 The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: he hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth no man. Talking of the Assyrian here. (The false-Christ of the end times). You can’t make a deal with antichrist.
Isa 33:9 The earth mourneth and languisheth: Lebanon is ashamed and hewn down: Sharon is like a wilderness; and Bashan and Carmel shake off their fruits. Does not produce any fruit and withers away.
Isa 33:10 Now will I rise, saith the LORD; now will I be exalted; now will I lift up myself. Time to stand. "The Lord is done waiting."
Isa 33:11 Ye shall conceive chaff, ye shall bring forth stubble: your breath, as fire, shall devour you. Be deceived by the false Christ and follow him and his teachings and you will be burned up by your own means. (Psalm 7:14).
Isa 33:12 And the people shall be as the burnings of lime: as thorns cut up shall they be burned in the fire. The people will be fuel for limekilns. Thorns cut up: Common fuel used in limekilns in Palestine.
Isa 33:13 Hear, ye that are far off, what I have done; and, ye that are near, acknowledge my might. Ye that are far off: i.e. the heathen. What I have done: i.e. in the destruction of Sennacherib's army.
Isa 33:14 The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? When the sinners in Jerusalem see what God does to the Assyrian (Satan of the end times), they will be terrified at how powerful God really is. (2 Thessalonians 1:8, Revelation 14:10, 20:10).
Isa 33:15 He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil; Those who are honest and fair, those who refuse to profit by fraud, those who stay away from bribes, those who refuse to listen to those who plot murder, those who shut their eyes to all enticement to do wrong. i.e. This is the type of behavior that will survive God's wrath of fire. Remember that God is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:29), He warms the hearts of the righteous and burns up all evil.
Isa 33:16 He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure. These are the ones who dwell on high. God is their "Rock" and fortress. They will have food to eat (the true Word), and waters of living life. (Luke 12:29-31).
Isa 33:17 Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off. Your own eyes will see the King in all His splendor. The land will be stretched out to it's fullest borders.
Isa 33:18 Thine heart shall meditate terror. Where is the scribe? where is the receiver? where is he that counted the towers? You will think back to this time of terror. Where they recorded the plunder taken from the fallen city. (Referring to Sennacherib's besieging army).
Isa 33:19 Thou shalt not see a fierce people, a people of a deeper speech than thou canst perceive; of a stammering tongue, that thou canst not understand. You will no longer see these fierce people with strange unknown tongue. i.e. "babbling tongue." (Tongue of confusion). The enemy will no longer be there.
Isa 33:20 Look upon Zion, the city of our solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, a tabernacle that shall not be taken down; not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken. Zion will be seen as a place of holy festivals. Jerusalem will be quiet and secure. (Psalm 128:5). A tabernacle: It will be like a tent that is never going to be torn down. End time reference: Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. (Revelation 3:12). Christ is speaking of the spiritual wedding that will be taking place to those who overcome. (Isaiah 62:4-5), We will be pillars of strength to hold up in the temple of God.
Isa 33:21 But there the glorious LORD will be unto us a place of broad rivers and streams; wherein shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby. No enemy, and no war machines. (No need for them). The Lord will be our mighty One. He is like a wide river of protection that no enemy can cross. (Psalm 29:3, 46:4-5).
Isa 33:22 For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us. The Lord is our judge (Psalm 98:9), lawgiver (James 4:12), and our King (Psalm 89:18, Zechariah 9:9, Matthew 21:5). King of Kings and Lord of Lord's! (Revelation 19:16).
Isa 33:23 Thy tacklings are loosed; they could not well strengthen their mast, they could not spread the sail: then is the prey of a great spoil divided; the lame take the prey. The treasures of the enemy will be divided by the people of God. (Everyone gets a piece of the action).
Isa 33:24 And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity. No more sickness. (Revelation 21:4, 22:2). The Lord will forgive all their sins. (Jeremiah 50:20). Forgiven if they repent. (1 John 7-9). Walk in His light, know and acknowledge that we are sinners, confess our sins to the Lord. Then... He will cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Isaiah 34
Isa 34:1 Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come forth of it. The nations and the people of the world (everybody), are to pay attention and listen (a heads-up), to what is to come in the end times. (Revelation 2:7).
Isa 34:2 For the indignation of the LORD is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter. This is referring to the "Great Tribulation Period" of the end times. God's wrath will be poured out on all the nations of the world. The Battle of Armageddon, when all the armies of the world who come against the Lord will be destroyed. (Zechariah 14:3, Romans 1:18, Revelation 16:12-16, 19:15-21).
Isa 34:3 Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcases, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood. The mountains will dissolve like a giant river of blood washing over them. (Ezekiel 32:5-6, Revelation 14:20, 16:3-4).
Isa 34:4 And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree. The heavens will melt away and the stars will fall from the sky. Falling fig from the fig tree: Reference to the return of antichrist who comes first. And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; (Revelation 6:12). The sky turns dark because of all the deception and lies. And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. (Revelation 6:13). The figs that are harvested out of season. This is the time when Satan is already on the scene and will be exposed. (666), The sixth seal, the sixth vial, and the sixth trump. Then after these days of the tribulation, "Not before" is when the real Christ shall appear. (Mark 13:24-27), This is when our gathering back to Christ will be. (2 Thessalonians 2). And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. (Revelation 6:14). This is the time when the second Heaven age ends and the third heaven age begins.
Isa 34:5 For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment. The two-edged sword of (Revelation 1:16). Upon Idumea: This would be "Edom" (the elder twin-brother of Jacob), "Esau," and the region occupied by him), or the red nation "Rush," i.e. "Russia," the nation marked for destruction. Those nations who do not trust in the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14-17).
Isa 34:6 The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea. Bozrah: Ancient capital of Edom. Edom will be involved when Jesus returns. (Isaiah 63:1-6, Revelation 19:17-18).
Isa 34:7 And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness. The land will be soaked with blood and the soil enriched with fat.
Isa 34:8 For it is the day of the LORD'S vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion. God will make all things right. "The day of vengeance." This will be God's payback for all that happened to Jerusalem.
Isa 34:9 And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch. The streams of Edom will be filled with burning pitch (soft asphalt), and the ground will be covered with fire.
Isa 34:10 It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever. "The lake of fire." (Blotted out is the better term). "Those who do not follow God will no longer be with us." Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath indignation for ever. (Malachi 1:4). Esau's descendants the Edomites will try to rebuild what has been shattered by the Lord, but Heaven's armies will demolish them again. Their country will be know as the land of wickedness and the people will be known as the people whom the Lord is forever angry. (Ezekiel 25:14, 35:9).
Isa 34:11 But the cormorant and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: and he shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness. Totally "void," only in (Genesis 1:2, Jeremiah 4:23 and this scripture), destroyed and empty. God destroyed the earth age once before, and He will do it again. As for your life today... "If you reject the Lord, your life will also be totally empty."
Isa 34:12 They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing. No world government or evil will be there.
Isa 34:13 And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an habitation of dragons, and a court for owls. Also found in: Jeremiah 49:33, 51:37, Malachi 1:3, Revelation 18:2).
Isa 34:14 The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest. The desert animals mingle there with the hyenas. Screech owl: Hebrew H3917 "liyliyth" meaning being of the night. (Female night demon), which charms are used against it to-day in Palestine.
Isa 34:15 There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with her mate. The owl and buzzards will make their nests. (No people around).
Isa 34:16 Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them. All people and things going against God will be gone.
Isa 34:17 And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein. From generation to generation (age to age), this generation will never be again. We will be in our spirit bodies and no longer in the flesh.
Isaiah 35
Isa 35:1 The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. Setting forth the future return of Israel. The wilderness: i.e. The land of Edom referred to in (Isaiah 34:9-16). Edom becomes a waste, while the land becomes a paradise. "One of the future miracles of God." (Ezekiel 36:35, Hosea 14:5-6).
Isa 35:2 It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the LORD, and the excellency of our God. The Lord displays His glory and all creation will sing for joy when Christ returns. Lets turn to the book of Romans for a better understanding. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. (Romans 8:18). What little suffering we must endure now compares nothing to the glory He will reveal to us later. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. (Romans 8:19). All creation is waiting for that day when God will reveal who His children really are. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope. (Romans 8:20). All creation was subject to God's curse, but with hope. Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. (Romans 8:21). The creation looks forward to the day when it will join God's children in freedom from death. (2 Peter 3:13), We look forward as well as creation itself, to the new heaven and earth as He promised, with a world filled with God's righteousness. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. (Romans 8:22). All creation has been groaning together as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. (Romans 8:23). As believers we also long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. Eagerly waiting with hope when God will give us our full right as His adopted children. A new spiritual body with eternal life that He has promised us. (Luke 20:36. Philippians 3:20-21), Our citizenship is in heaven where the Lord is; and we are waiting for Him to return as our Savior. He will change our weak flesh bodies into glorious spiritual bodies like His own. Using the same power with which He will bring all things under His control.
Isa 35:3 Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Strengthen and encourage. (Hebrews 12:12).
Isa 35:4 Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you. Don't be anxious, be strong, and do not be afraid. God isn't after you... "He is coming to destroy the enemies of God." (Zechariah 2:8-10, James 5:7-9, Revelation 1:7).
Isa 35:5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. All will have eyes to see and ears to hear. He came once before to save His people, but they rejected Him. Turn with me to the book of Matthew. And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities. (Matthew 11:1). Went to teach the multitudes of people in the cities. Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, (Matthew 11:2). Two disciples that studied under John were sent to Christ by John the Baptist. And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? (Matthew 11:3). John was a student of the Word. One of the last great prophets before Christ. He wanted to know if this was the first of two advents spoken of in (Zechariah 9:9-10). Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: (Matthew 11:4). Go back and tell John what you see. The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. (Matthew 11:5). The Word being preached for all to hear and receive. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me. (Matthew 11:6). Blessed are those who do not doubt Him. Those who accept His Word. Remember that the doctrine of Christ is the truth of the Word and not traditions of men. This was the message that He was sending to John.
Isa 35:6 Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert. The lame will leap like a dear, and those who cannot speak will sing for joy. Springs will gush forth in the wilderness and water will fill the wasteland. And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. (Revelation 22:1). This is a spiritual water of life that is pouring fourth in front of the throne. The book of Ezekiel speaks of "Living Waters" as Ezekiel was shown the vision of the temple. (Ezekiel 47:1-12).
Isa 35:7 And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes. Habitation of dragons: One of Satan's names as an end time prophecy of Revelation. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. Within the confounds of Babylon are caged everything that is spiritually unclean and evil and it will be destroyed. (Revelation 18:2).
Isa 35:8 And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein. Only those in Christ will be able to walk on the "Highway of Holiness." (Ephesians 2:10, 1 Thessalonians 4:7).
Isa 35:9 No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there: No lions or any ferocious beast... No danger. Only the redeemed will walk on the "Highway of Holiness." (Revelation 5:9).
Isa 35:10 And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. Christ paid the price on the cross. (Matthew 20:28). Only joy and gladness when they enter Jerusalem singing. (Revelation 7:9-17, 21:4).
Isaiah 36
We will be talking here about the invasion of Assyria into the land of Israel and it's threat to conquer Jerusalem. We have seen prophecy leading up to this event and we will see how King Hezekiah took the people of God through this crisis. (2 Kings 18:13-20, 19).
Isa 36:1 Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the defenced cities of Judah, and took them. Fourteenth year of king Hezekiah: Around 701 B.C. The Northern Kingdom of Israel had fallen to the Assyrians earlier in 722 B.C. Keep in mind that "Sennacherib" is a type of antichrist of the end times. (Remember that God is allowing this to happen).
Isa 36:2 And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem unto king Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field. Rabshakeh: The chief cup bearer (a high official in Sennacherib's government). He went with a huge army to confront King Hezekiah in Jerusalem. (2 Kings 18:17-37, 2 Chronicles 32:9-23).
Isa 36:3 Then came forth unto him Eliakim, Hilkiah's son, which was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, Asaph's son, the recorder. The officials Hezekiah sent to deal with the Assyrian emissaries.
Isa 36:4 And Rabshakeh said unto them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest? Give this message to Hezekiah... What are you trusting in that makes you so confident? Some trusted in Egypt, but others trusted in the Lord.
Isa 36:5 I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for war: now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me? Are you counting on mere words to substitute for military skill. Who are you counting on? (Where does your strength come from)?
Isa 36:6 Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him. Egypt is like a broken reed. Are you trusting on Egypt? They are unreliable.
Isa 36:7 But if thou say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar? You people were led to idol worship and now you say you trust in God? Just as people today who are led into false teachings and traditions of men.
Isa 36:8 Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them. Offering horses but no guys to put on them. (This is the Assyrian king offering this).
Isa 36:9 How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen? The smallest Assyrian regiment would take care of them.
Isa 36:10 And am I now come up without the LORD against this land to destroy it? the LORD said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it. The plan of God. (Isaiah 10:5-7). God sent the Assyrian, just as He will send the antichrist of the end times.
Isa 36:11 Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jews' language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall. Speak to us in Aramaic so we understand it well.
Isa 36:12 But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you? Sit upon the wall: Maintain their posts. i.e. Till reduced to these extremities.
Isa 36:13 Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria. The language of Judah (Hebrew), so everyone will hear it.
Isa 36:14 Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you. God is in control here, not Hezekiah. Satan has a way of confusing people. He can twist the word to make it sound like your hearing truth, but it is a lie that could kill you later.
Isa 36:15 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria. It won't happen like Hezekiah has told you the king says.
Isa 36:16 Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern; The king of Assyria want to make a deal with you. "Just as Satan will in the end times." (Remember that he comes in peacefully and prosperously).
Isa 36:17 Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards. A land of corn: Exodus 3:8, Deuteronomy 8:7-9, 11:12, Job 20:17. The other copy in (2 Kings 18:32), adds here, "a land of oil olive, and of honey; that ye may live, and not die.
Isa 36:18 Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? This is a true statement that gods of other nations never saved them from the king of Assyria. However, Other nation were not following the True God.
Isa 36:19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? These were all places that the Assyrians have conquered.
Isa 36:20 Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand? No gods of any nation were able to save the people from the power of the Assyrian. "What makes you think the Lord can rescue Jerusalem from me?"
Isa 36:21 But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king's commandment was, saying, Answer him not. Hezekiah tells the people to let him babble-on and don't answer him. Sometimes it is better to keep silent. (Proverbs 10:19). Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time. (Amos 5:13). In that time, the smart keep their mouths shut, because it is a time of calamity. (Ephesians 5:15-16, 2 Timothy 3:1), It will be very difficult in the end times.
Isa 36:22 Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh. They went back to Hezekiah and tore their clothes in despair and told him what the Assyrian chief of staff had said. The history of the invasion of Sennacherib, and the miraculous destruction of his army, which makes the subject of so many of Isaiah's prophecies, is very properly inserted here, as affording the best light to many parts of these prophecies; and as almost necessary to introduce the prophecy in (Isaiah 37:1), being the answer of God to Hezekiah's prayer, which could not be properly understood without it. Sennacherib succeeded his father Shalmaneser on the throne of Assyria, am 3290, B.C. 714, and reigned only about eight years.
Isaiah 37
Isa 37:1 And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD. Hezekiah's reference to his love for, and use of, the Temple in his "Songs of the Degrees." (Psalms 122:1-9, 134:1-3). "Finally bringing God into the equation."
Isa 37:2 And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests covered with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz. The palace administrator, the secretary, and the leading priests.
Isa 37:3 And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth. Trouble is here, but they are not sure they can go through it. They have been misled and informed by Hezekiah, now they turn back to God along with Hezekiah.
Isa 37:4 It may be the LORD thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that is left. Hezekiah asking Isaiah to pray that God might hear them. (James 5:16).
Isa 37:5 So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah. Delivered the message to Isaiah.
Isa 37:6 And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say unto your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me. Tell your master "This is what the Lord says." Don't worry what was said about Me from the Assyrian king. (God will take care of it).
Isa 37:7 Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land. Blast: H7307 "ruach" or "Spirit." It would read. I will send the "Holy Spirit" against him, and he will receive a message that he is needed at home. Then Sennacherib will be killed by the sword. "God can make things happen in your life when you are threatened by the enemy."
Isa 37:8 So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish. The chief of staff left Jerusalem and went to consult the king of Assyria.
Isa 37:9 And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He is come forth to make war with thee. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying, Sennacherib putting pressure on Hezekiah to surrender before Tirhakah gets closer.
Isa 37:10 Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God, in whom thou trustest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. King of Assyria speaking here.
Isa 37:11 Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered? Really building himself up here. All lands: i.e. all such countries specially connected with Israel.
Isa 37:12 Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed, as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Telassar? No... He is just puffing smoke here.
Isa 37:13 Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? Places conquered by the Assyrians.
Isa 37:14 And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD. Now he is bringing God into the equation. "Lays it all out before the Lord."
Isa 37:15 And Hezekiah prayed unto the LORD, saying, Hezekiah praying to God of Israel.
Isa 37:16 O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth. Giving the credit to the one true God.
Isa 37:17 Incline thine ear, O LORD, and hear; open thine eyes, O LORD, and see: and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent to reproach the living God.
Isa 37:18 Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries,
Isa 37:19 And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them. Of course the Assyrians could destroy them! They were only false gods and idols made of wood and stone. (Jeremiah 10:11).
Isa 37:20 Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD, even thou only. Hezekiah's short request to the Lord. "Save Us."
Isa 37:21 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent unto Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria: Isaiah speaking to Hezekiah. "Tells him what the Lord has said."
Isa 37:22 This is the word which the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin, the daughter of Zion, hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee. The virgin: Referring to the city of Jerusalem.
Isa 37:23 Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel. Blasphemed God! Sennacherib thought he was mocking the Jews, but he was mocking the Almighty God Himself. (Not a good thing to do).
Isa 37:24 By thy servants hast thou reproached the Lord, and hast said, By the multitude of my chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars thereof, and the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the height of his border, and the forest of his Carmel. Puffing smoke again. These boasts probably refer to the future as well as the past.
Isa 37:25 I have digged, and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of the besieged places. Future sense: In that day also he shall come even to thee from Assyria, and from the fortified cities, and from the fortress even to the river, and from sea to sea, and from mountain to mountain. (Micah 7:12). In that day (future in the Lord's Day), people will come from many lands to honor you. From Assyria all the way to the towns of Egypt, and from Egypt all the way to the Euphrates river, and from distant seas and mountains. (Hosea 11:11), He will gather the house of Israel from the people among who, they are scattered. (Ezekiel 28:25) "The expressions employed in this prophecy appear to be too strong for the events which transpired after the Babylonian captivity; and seem to refer to the future restoration of Israel, after their land has lain desolate for ages."
Isa 37:26 Hast thou not heard long ago, how I have done it; and of ancient times, that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste defenced cities into ruinous heaps. Switching to the Heavenly Father now. God decided that the Assyrian should exist. They have become powerful because God had allowed it. Same for the Assyrian (Satan), of the end times. God allows him to be powerful. Cities into ruins: In the future sense: The battle of Armageddon.
Isa 37:27 Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up. The people so frightened and confused. Grass of the field: (Psalm 129:6, 1 Peter 1:24).
Isa 37:28 But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me. God knows everything about Sennacherib.
Isa 37:29 Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult, is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest. The Lord will treat them as they treated others. (Ezekiel 29:4, 38:4). The Lord GOD hath sworn by his holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks. (Amos 4:2). The Lord has sworn, the time is coming when you will be dragged away like a fish on a hook.
Isa 37:30 And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such as groweth of itself; and the second year that which springeth of the same: and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof. This is a sign for Hezekiah. God will always provide.
Isa 37:31 And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward: Hezekiah refers to Yahveh's repeated promises on which he relies. (2 Kings 19:30-34).
Isa 37:32 For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this. The remnant: God's children.
Isa 37:33 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it. It's not going to happen. "They are not going to get near Jerusalem."
Isa 37:34 By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD. The king will return to his own country by the same road he came.
Isa 37:35 For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake. For David's sake: The linage that "Messiah" would come. "It would be fore His sake." (Jeremiah 23:5-6, 30:9, 33:15-16).
Isa 37:36 Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. 185,000 dead by the angel of the Lord. "Don't mess with God."
Isa 37:37 So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh. Happy to be spared and could rest at Nineveh. (He lived in Nineveh about 20 more years before verse 38).
Isa 37:38 And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead. Esarhaddon would come out as the victor, the next king of Assyria. (2 Kings 19:36-37).
Isaiah 38
Isa 38:1 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. In those days: i.e. Hezekiah's fourteenth year. (When Sennacherib came against Jerusalem). Hezekiah given fifteen years after that. (603-588 B.C.), and he reigned twenty-nine years (2 Kings 18:2). His sickness during the siege. Set thine house in order: Isaiah tells him to get his house in order. In this life we also need to get our house in order. Are you ready to die?
Isa 38:2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, Prayed to the Lord. (Pleading with Him).
Isa 38:3 And said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. Broke down weeping.
Isa 38:4 Then came the word of the LORD to Isaiah, saying, Message to Isaiah from the Lord.
Isa 38:5 Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years. Fifteen years added to his life was the message. (Now he knows when he will die).
Isa 38:6 And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city. The city will be rescued from the king of Assyria. (Isaiah 37:35).
Isa 38:7 And this shall be a sign unto thee from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that he hath spoken; Hezekiah had asked for this sign.
Isa 38:8 Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down. Moving the sundial back ten steps. (Devine intervention). The sun dial: Heb. the degrees by, or, with the sun, Or, as the Hebrew might be rendered, "the steps of Ahaz." The researches of curious travellers in Hindostan, observes Bp. Stock, have lately discovered in that country, three observatories of similar form, the most remarkable of which is to be seen within four miles of Delhi, the ancient capital of the Mogul empire. A rectangle triangle, whose hypotenuse is a staircase (apparently parallel to the axis of the earth), bisects a zone, or coping of a wall, which wall connects the two terminating towers at right and left. The coping itself is of a circular form, and accurately graduated, to mark, by the gnomon above, the sun's progress before and after noon.
Isa 38:9 The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness: Hezekiah's song. He put his thanksgiving into writing, that he might review it himself afterwards, for the reviving of the good impressions made upon him by the providential interference, and that it might be recommended to others also for their use upon the like occasion. (2 Chronicles 29:30).
Isa 38:10 I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years. Hezekiah had planned to live longer. (2 Corinthians 1:9).
Isa 38:11 I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world. I'll be dead and in another place.
Isa 38:12 Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd's tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining sickness: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me. Like a tent that is rolled up and carted off.
Isa 38:13 I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me. All in the same day will his end come.
Isa 38:14 Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove: mine eyes fail with looking upward: O LORD, I am oppressed; undertake for me. It was hard for him to repent after what he did to Judah. However, God loves a repenting heart. He knew he was in trouble, and asked the Lord to help him.
Isa 38:15 What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul. God has spoken to me. He is the one who has healed me. (His illness taught him to walk humble and make the best of his life that was left).
Isa 38:16 O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live. By what things men live: (Deuteronomy 8:3). Life of my spirit: Talking about eternal life here. (This is what we strive for with the help of the Heavenly Father).
Isa 38:17 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. Hezekiah knew he had done wrong and now he is coming clean here with God.
Isa 38:18 For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. Why? They are blotted out! "Speaking of the second death here." (Matthew 25:46).
Isa 38:19 The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth. The truth passed on year after year since the beginning. Hezekiah might be reminding the Heavenly Father here that a son needs to live to learn. (i.e. implying that only such are able to praise).
Isa 38:20 The LORD was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD. The songs of degrees. (See Appendix 67). House of the Lord: Hezekiah's love for this in these songs. (Psalms 122:1-9, 134:1-2).
Isa 38:21 For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaister upon the boil, and he shall recover. He had recovered. (Here he was healed by prayer, medicine, and most of all God).
Isa 38:22 Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD? A sign: See verse 7&8 and (2 kings 20:8-9).
Isaiah 39
Isa 39:1 At that time Merodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah: for he had heard that he had been sick, and was recovered. Merodachbaladan: A Chaldean prince and worshipper of Baal. Sends a gift to Hezekiah because he had been sick.
Isa 39:2 And Hezekiah was glad of them, and shewed them the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not. Hezekiah had a lot of spoil after the Assyrians has been conquered by the angel of the Lord. Now he is going to show the enemy everything, including all their defenses. (2 Kings 20:12-19). What was he thinking?
Isa 39:3 Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country unto me, even from Babylon. Note: Isaiah asked Hezekiah two questions, but he only answered one. Hezekiah gets a little puffed up with pride here that these guys heard about him and came from a far away place. He over looked that they might be a threat. (Jeremiah 5:15).
Isa 39:4 Then said he, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All that is in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them. Hezekiah didn't think he did anything so wrong, but he didn't realize yet that these people were the enemy.
Isa 39:5 Then said Isaiah to Hezekiah, Hear the word of the LORD of hosts: Listen to this message from the Lord.
Isa 39:6 Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD. Going to lose it all to the Babylonians. (Jeremiah 20:5, 27:21-22).
Isa 39:7 And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon. His children taken by the king of Babylon.
Isa 39:8 Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. He said moreover, For there shall be peace and truth in my days. It appears that Hezekiah is thinking at least there will be peace during his lifetime. However, Hezekiah may have been truly humbled by what Isaiah has said. (2 Chronicles 32:26).
Isaiah 40
So far in the book of Isaiah we have been covering things surrounding the Assyrian invasion and the coming judgment, both then and in the future. Chapters 40 through 66 will focus more on the coming Messiah.
Isa 40:1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. God instructing Isaiah to comfort His people. God is the comforter. (2 Corinthians 1:4). We are also to comfort one another. (1 Thessalonians 4:18).
Isa 40:2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD'S hand double for all her sins. Comfort Jerusalem and tell her that the sad days are gone. She has been pardoned, because the Lord punished her twice for all her sins. However, she would receive a double blessing in the future. (Isaiah 61:7, Revelation 18:6). Could it be that the double blessing in the future would be John the Baptist "preparing the way," and Jesus Christ that would fulfill the blessing?
Isa 40:3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Preparing the way: (Malachi 3:1, Luke 1:16-17), for the Messiah to come.
Isa 40:4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: Making the path to salvation straight and smooth. This is what John the Baptist did, he offered the people Baptism. When Christ returns, He will make the path straight and their will be no more confusion or hardship.
Isa 40:5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. Partially fulfilled in the first advent (Zechariah 9:9). Ultimately fulfilled in the second advent. (Zechariah 9:10, Revelation 21:23).
Isa 40:6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: All flesh and mans goodness will fade away, in the future at the return of Christ (second advent), we will be in our spirit bodies.
Isa 40:7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. Just as the grass withers, so will these flesh bodies.
Isa 40:8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. However, God's Word will never change. (Matthew 24:35, Mark 13:31, 1 Peter 1:25).
Isa 40:9 O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God! Good Tidings: Spread the "Good News" about the coming of Jesus. (Luke 24:47).
Isa 40:10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him. The Lords second coming. For those who serve Him He will bring reward, for those who are against Him, He will bring judgment and punishment. (Revelation 22:12).
Isa 40:11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. Jesus will lead His people gently and firmly, feeding them the Word of truth. (Revelation 7:17).
Isa 40:12 Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance? Showing the almighty power, ability, and wisdom of God the creator. And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands. (Hebrews 1:10). He laid the foundation of the earth and made the heavens with His hands. (Genesis 1:1, Isaiah 51:13, John 1:1-3). Read our newsletter study topic titled: "Three Earth Ages," for a better understanding. They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment. (Hebrews 1:11). They will all perish, but the Word (Our Lord Jesus Christ), remains forever. (Revelation 1:17-18). And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. (Hebrews 1:12). This heaven and earth age or any evil will be discarded like old clothing, but the Word will remain forever. Christ is the same yesterday, and today. (Hebrews 13:8).
Isa 40:13 Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him? No one knows the mind of the Lord, or is able to advise Him. (Romans 11:34, 1 Corinthians 2:16).
Isa 40:14 With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding? The Lord needs no one's help and no one can instruct Him. In fact all mans gifts come from Him. (Colossians 2:3, James 1:17).
Isa 40:15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing. The nations of the world are nothing to Him, they are like dust on a scale.
Isa 40:16 And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering. Forget the burnt offerings, they will never add up to anything. Why? Our Heavenly Father wants your love, not burnt offerings. For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings. (Hosea 6:6).
Isa 40:17 All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity. The nations are worth nothing to Him. Just void and without form as in. (Genesis 1:2).
Isa 40:18 To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him? Can't make no image to resemble Him. However, we do have a likeness of Him. Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature. (Colossians 1:15). Christ being in the exact likeness of God. Christ was before any other creature. "Emmanuel" God with us.
Isa 40:19 The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains. Can't compare Him to any man made idols. An Idol can't to anything! What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols? (Habakkuk 2:18). Your graven images and statues will do you no good. You trust in your own creations, false gods that cannot even talk! (Isaiah 42:17, Isaiah 44:9-10, Isaiah 45:16, Isaiah 45:20). "As for the false prophets who mislead the people, it won't be good." (Jeremiah 14:14-16). Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it. (Habakkuk 2:19). Only sorrow awaits those who trust or pray to these speechless worthless stone images that are lifeless inside. (Psalm 97:7, Isaiah 44:17, Jeremiah 51:47, Psalm 135:17, Acts 17:29), If this is true, we should not think of God as an image or idol made from men. (God is real).
Isa 40:20 He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved. Idols were not just for the wealthy because they are made of silver and gold. The poor can make them from wood. The idea here is that rich or poor, we can get hung up on things that will keep us from trusting in God.
Isa 40:21 Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth? Don't you understand? Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. (Romans 1:19). They know the truth about God because He made it known to them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse. (Romans 1:20). Since the "beginning of time" people have seen everything God has made. (Read our newsletter: Three Earth Ages). They can clearly see His invisible qualities, eternal power and divine nature. "They have no excuse for not knowing God." (Especially in today's world with all it's technology, there is no excuse not to know the Word of God). Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. (Romans 1:21). They know God, but they don't worship, believe in, or give thanks to Him. They think up foolish ideas of what God is like and their minds become dark and confused. (Matthew 15:19, Ephesians 4:17-18). Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. (Romans 1:22). They claim to be wise, but are just a bunch of fools.
Isa 40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: God sits above the circle of the earth. (Here is a verse that proved the earth was round). He spreads the heavens and makes them like a veil (or covering), upon the earth. (Jeremiah 10:12).
Isa 40:23 That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity. Brings the great people of the world down to nothing. He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. (Luke 1:51). He scatters the proud and haughty ones by the power in His mighty arms. (Psalms 33:10, 1 Peter 5:5). He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. (Luke 1:51). He has torn princes from their thrones and exalted the lowly. (Job 5:11-15). "Go against God, and that's it."
Isa 40:24 Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble. Those in authority will be blown away in the wind. (Jeremiah 23:19, Hosea 13:3).
Isa 40:25 To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One. Can't be done! No one can be compared to God!
Isa 40:26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth. The billions of stars in the heavens. Mans astronomers may give them a number of identity, but God calls them all by name. (Psalm 147:4-5).
Isa 40:27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God? A question put to us all. God sees and knows everything in your life. Just as He knows the stars, He also knows you by name. (John 10:3).
Isa 40:28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. The Lord is everlasting, never grows weak, and no one can measure His understanding. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:16). Who can know the thoughts of the Lord? (Isaiah 40:13-14, Romans 11:34). However, when you have the "Holy Spirit," you can have the thoughts of Christ through His Word. (John 15:15, 16:13-16).
Isa 40:29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. "Speaking to us my friend." (Psalm 29:11, Zechariah 10:12). As the scripture says: "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13).
Isa 40:30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: Even the little ones will become weak and tired at times. Young men will fall from exhaustion.
Isa 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. But, those who trust in the Lord, will find new strength. They will soar high on wings of eagles. "It will be an awesome time at the return of Christ." (We can have that strength now through the Holy Spirit).
Isaiah 41
Isa 41:1 Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the people renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak: let us come near together to judgment. Listen people of the world, come to renew your strength. God calling the people together to listen and plead their case. (Micah 6:1-3).
Isa 41:2 Who raised up the righteous man from the east, called him to his foot, gave the nations before him, and made him rule over kings? he gave them as the dust to his sword, and as driven stubble to his bow. Man from the east: i.e. Abraham. Cyrus raised from the north. (Isaiah 41:25). Kings: i.e. Those mentioned in (Genesis 14:1, 8, 9).
Isa 41:3 He pursued them, and passed safely; even by the way that he had not gone with his feet. He pursued them: i.e. Abraham pursued them unto Dan. (Genesis 14:14-15).
Isa 41:4 Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he. Who has done the mighty deeds, summoning each generation from the beginning of time? The Lord: Yahveh. The first, and last... Occurs here and (Isaiah 44:6, 48:12). Three times in Isaiah, and three times in the Apocalypse (Revelation 1:17, 2:8, 22:13), with the last. i.e. He who called Abraham, "the first," will be with the "last" (Messiah), Who is the subject of this prophecy. I am he: "I Am."
Isa 41:5 The isles saw it, and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and came. You lands beyond the sea, watch in fear.
Isa 41:6 They helped every one his neighbour; and every one said to his brother, Be of good courage. Encouraged one another to be strong.
Isa 41:7 So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, and he that smootheth with the hammer him that smote the anvil, saying, It is ready for the sodering: and he fastened it with nails, that it should not be moved. Encouraging each other in making their idols to fasten them so they won't fall over.
Isa 41:8 But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend. Servants in Isaiah. This was Israel, as the seed of Abraham (2 Chronicles 20:7), not Cyrus (yet).
Isa 41:9 Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away. Called you back from the ends of the earth. "Chosen by God." (Genesis 12:1, Joshua 24:2-4, Nehemiah 9:7, Acts 7:2-7). Reference to (Deuteronomy 7:6, 10:15, 14:2). See Appendix 92.
Isa 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Don't be afraid, I am your God and will help you. Reference to (Deuteronomy 31:6-8).
Isa 41:11 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish. Your enemies will be confused and humiliated. Anyone who opposes you will die. (Exodus 23:22).
Isa 41:12 Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought. Those who attack you will come to nothing. (Psalm 37:35-36).
Isa 41:13 For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee. The strong hand of God is here to help you. (Psalm 63:8, 73:23).
Isa 41:14 Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. Thou worm: Emphasize the weakness of Israel. I will help you, I am your Redeemer.
Isa 41:15 Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff. A sharp threshing instrument to tear your enemies. Thou didst march through the land in indignation, thou didst thresh the heathen in anger. (Habakkuk 3:12). Marched across the land in anger and trampled the nations (i.e. nations of Canaan) in your fury. (Acts 13:19), it will happen again to Babylon in the end times. (Jeremiah 51:33).
Isa 41:16 Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: and thou shalt rejoice in the LORD, and shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel. Your enemies will be tossed in the air and blown away. (Psalm 1:4, Matthew 3:12).
Isa 41:17 When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. God never abandon's the poor and needy. (John 7:37-39, Revelation 21:6, 22:17).
Isa 41:18 I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. God can refresh us in many ways, even in the highs and lows of life. (Zechariah 14:8, Revelation 7:17, Revelation 22:1).
Isa 41:19 I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together: Fulfilled when Christ returns. He will bring restoration to the whole earth.
Isa 41:20 That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it. Doing this so you can see and understand that the Lord has done this.
Isa 41:21 Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob. God laying out a challenge to those who want to follow idols and heathen kings. King of Jacob: God of Israel!
Isa 41:22 Let them bring them forth, and shew us what shall happen: let them shew the former things, what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come. They can't tell you about the past or predict the future.
Isa 41:23 Shew the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods: yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together. Are these idols real or not, do they know they are gods? They can't do good or bad! (Jeremiah 10:5), they are worthless and can't harm you.
Isa 41:24 Behold, ye are of nothing, and your work of nought: an abomination is he that chooseth you. They are less than nothing, and can do nothing. (Jeremiah 10:14, 51:17-18).
Isa 41:25 I have raised up one from the north, and he shall come: from the rising of the sun shall he call upon my name: and he shall come upon princes as upon morter, and as the potter treadeth clay. Raised up from the north: i.e. Cyrus. (See appendix 57). Abraham (the other type was "from the east," verse 2). This prophecy was made 137 years before its fulfillment. (Isaiah 44:28, 45:1). I have: Yahveh here, by the mouth of the prophet, predicts the victories of Cyrus over the Chaldeans and their allies, at least 150 years before the event, as one instance of his foreknowledge and invincible power. Media lay north of Babylon, and Persia eastward; and Cyrus commanded the forces of both these nations; and, by his wonderful success, he trampled down mighty monarchs as mortar, and as the potter treads the clay. (Jeremiah 51:27-29, Ezra 1:2-3). Cyrus (the Medo-Persian) did fulfill this on the Babylonian "princes."
Isa 41:26 Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? and beforetime, that we may say, He is righteous? yea, there is none that sheweth, yea, there is none that declareth, yea, there is none that heareth your words. Only God knows what happened from the beginning. Who predicted the future? Prophecy shows that only God is right!
