Isaiah 42
Isa 42:1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. My servant: The "Messiah." (Matthew 12:18). Whom I uphold: Strengthen, (John 16:32). My soul delighteth: My chosen One, (John 6:27, 1 Peter 2:4). My spirit upon Him: The "Holy Spirit." (Matthew 3:17, Mark 1:11, Luke 3:22). Judgment to the Gentiles: Justice to all nations. (Matthew 1:11, 12:18). Here we have the doctrine of the trinity. The Father, The speaker. My "Servant," The Son. My Spirit, "The Holy Spirit."
Isa 42:2 He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. He would not shout or raise His voice in public. (Matthew 12:19).
Isa 42:3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. He is gentle and will bring justice to all who have been wronged. (Matthew 12:20).
Isa 42:4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law. He will not falter or break down until justice is upon the earth.
Isa 42:5 Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: He created everything in the heavens and earth. He gives breath and life to everyone who walks on earth.
Isa 42:6 I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; A light to the Gentiles: (Luke 2:32). (Something many Jews have a problem with).
Isa 42:7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. Open the eyes of the spiritual blind. (John 8:12, 1 Peter 2:9).
Isa 42:8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. All the glory to "Jesus" only. (John 5:23). Nothing to graven images. (Exodus 20:3-5, 34:14). Don't pray to or worship any graven images or statues. "Pray to the Heavenly Father only."
Isa 42:9 Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them. Revealed things that already happened, and will reveal new things to come. (Acts 15:18).
Isa 42:10 Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
Isa 42:11 Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.
Isa 42:12 Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands. The whole world will glorify the Lord. (Revelation 7:9-12).
Isa 42:13 The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall prevail against his enemies. He will go forth as a warrior, full of fury, to crush the enemy.
Isa 42:14 I have long time holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: now will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once. God is patient, but there will come a time when His patience runs out. (2 Peter 3:9-10).
Isa 42:15 I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools. End time prophecy that is coming soon. (Zechariah 10:11, Revelation 8:7-12).
Isa 42:16 And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them. Lead the spiritual blind down a new path. (Those who have a hard time seeing the Lord). I will smooth the road ahead of them. (Luke 3:5).
Isa 42:17 They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods. Confide in idols and graven images and you will be turned away in shame.
Isa 42:18 Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see. Do you have eyes to see and ears to hear? "This is a warning to the spiritual blind." (Proverbs 20:12).
Isa 42:19 Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the LORD'S servant? My servant: This is "Israel" spoken of here. The Jews were chosen by God, given the law of God, God had spoken to them. They had it all, but they were still blind to the things of God. (John 1:11).
Isa 42:20 Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not. You know what is right but refuse to do right. You hear with your ears, but you don't really listen. These people were still worshipping idols rather than God. How many we have in the world that do the same thing today. (Pray to statues and images made by man, listen to mans false doctrine, and put their trust in traditions of men).
Isa 42:21 The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable. The Lord being righteous, has exalted the law. "Raised the law to a higher standard." For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh. (Romans 8:3). The law was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. God did what the law could not do by sending His Son in a body like ours. Yes, a flesh body just like we sinners have with all the temptations. An as an example to us, Jesus walked in righteousness without sin. In that body God declared an end to sin's control over us by giving His only begotten Son as a sacrifice for all our sins. (II Corinthians 5:21). So, how can we walk in righteousness being led by the Spirit and become better Christians in this world? (I Peter 4:1-2), Arm yourself with the gospel armor (the Word of God), for Christ is that Word. This will make it easier to fight off temptation. When you suffer for Christ, even when mess up at times, your sins are forgiven upon repentance. That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. (Romans 8:4). God did this so the requirement of the law would be fulfilled for us, who once walked after the flesh, but now follow the Spirit. Christ would say Himself: Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. (Matthew 5:17).
Isa 42:22 But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore. Israel being the subject of this matter. (They were caught up in all kind of traps with no one to help them).
Isa 42:23 Who among you will give ear to this? who will hearken and hear for the time to come? Who will here the lessons from the past and see the ruin that awaits your future. (It's right their in His word for all of us to see and hear the truth, past, present, and into the future).
Isa 42:24 Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law. Why would God do this? They refused to listen to God, so He let them be caught up in the traps.
Isa 42:25 Therefore he hath poured upon him the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: and it hath set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart. Over and over God has poured out His fury, but they still have not learned their lesson. (Psalm 79:5-6, Jeremiah 5:3). It will happen again one final time in the near future. (Revelation 9:18-21, 16:19). How many time are we disciplined by God that we may not understand, but we do not take it to heart? If God corrects you, learn the lesson and move on. Don't be like these people who never learn their lesson.
Isaiah 43
Isa 43:1 But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. Lord: Here we have Yahveh the creator. Jacob: Israel (Genesis 32:28). He that formed: Thy former (Isaiah 43:7, Ephesians 2:10). Fear not, I have redeemed thee: The Redeemer. Have called: (Isaiah 42:6). Thou art mine: (Zechariah 13:9, Hebrews 8:8-10).
Isa 43:2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. Referring to Israel's future. Waters, rivers, fire, flame: A promise of future deliverance for troubles of any and all kinds. (God can deliver you out of any problems).
Isa 43:3 For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. Three titles used here. Lord: "Yahveh." Israel's God by covenant. Holy One of Israel: In contrast with all false gods. (Psalm 71:22). The Savior: Third title. Egypt: Ethiopia and Seba = Egypt. Nubia (Cush), and Ethiopia. These were given to Persia as ransom-money (as it were), for the release of Israel by Persia through the successors of Cyrus. In the time of Isaiah these three were united under one dynasty.
Isa 43:4 Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. Others were given in exchange for you. God has traded their lives for yours because you are precious to Him. When you are one of God's elect, God will move in mysterious ways just for your sake. (He will even remove someone who brings trouble to you if necessary).
Isa 43:5 Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;
Isa 43:6 I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; Gather the people from the four corners of the earth. (Galatians 3:26-29).
Isa 43:7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him. All who claim Him as their God, for He has created them. (Ephesians 2:10, Titus 3:5-7).
Isa 43:8 Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears. God challenging those serving other gods. Not only that, but those that are spiritually dead (no eyes to see the truth, or ears to hear the truth). Those blinded by Satan, false teachings and traditions of men. (2 Corinthians 4:4-6).
Isa 43:9 Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth. Speaking to the people of this world. Your idols cannot predict the future. Your false teachers cannot predict the future, and they cannot even verify that they spoke the truth. "Only the One True God can do this."
Isa 43:10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. My servant: All Israel. No other God but the eternal God, and there never will be.
Isa 43:11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour. Only one Savior. (John 14:6, 1 John 5:20).
Isa 43:12 I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God. The One and only God.
Isa 43:13 Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it? From the beginning to the end, there is no god greater than the One true God. (John 1:1-2, Revelation 1:8).
Isa 43:14 Thus saith the LORD, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles, and the Chaldeans, whose cry is in the ships. I will send armies against Babylon. (Jeremiah 51:24, Revelation 18:20-21).
Isa 43:15 I am the LORD, your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King. Creator and King.
Isa 43:16 Thus saith the LORD, which maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters; Way in the sea: Reference to (Exodus 14:16), God parting the Red Sea.
Isa 43:17 Which bringeth forth the chariot and horse, the army and the power; they shall lie down together, they shall not rise: they are extinct, they are quenched as tow. Wiped out the Egyptians that were chased Moses and the people.
Isa 43:18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Parting of the Red Sea and drowning the Egyptians and all it's chariots is nothing compared to what the Lord is going to do.
Isa 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. A new thing: i.e. The future deliverance of Israel will be with greater marvels than at the Exodus.
Isa 43:20 The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen. End time prophecy for Israel. (Isaiah 11:6-10, John 7:37-39, Revelation 21:6, 22:17).
Isa 43:21 This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise. This people chosen by God. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. (1 Peter 2:9). A chosen generation (Generation of the fig tree), or the last generation.
Isa 43:22 But thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob; but thou hast been weary of me, O Israel. Grown tired of Me and do not ask for my help. (Jeremiah 2:31). They say we are going to do it my way and not the ways of the Lord. (Don't leave God out of your life). "You are nothing on your own."
Isa 43:23 Thou hast not brought me the small cattle of thy burnt offerings; neither hast thou honoured me with thy sacrifices. I have not caused thee to serve with an offering, nor wearied thee with incense. God will never force you to worship Him.
Isa 43:24 Thou hast bought me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat of thy sacrifices: but thou hast made me to serve with thy sins, thou hast wearied me with thine iniquities. Only came to God when they had a problem. How many people do that today. Get in a little trouble, or life threatening situation and who do they pray to and ask for help? "God of course."
Isa 43:25 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. Will not remember: He remembers our infirmities (which man forgets), but will forget our sins (which man remembers).
Isa 43:26 Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified. Put Me in remembrance: Lets review your situation together. May be justified: Only God can justify, not man. And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God. (Luke 16:15). They appear so righteous and holy in public, but God knows their hearts. The things the world honors, is detestable to God.
Isa 43:27 Thy first father hath sinned, and thy teachers have transgressed against me. First father: i.e. Jacob, as stated in the next verse. Teachers: Those who were to interpret the truth, but turned it to false teachings.
Isa 43:28 Therefore I have profaned the princes of the sanctuary, and have given Jacob to the curse, and Israel to reproaches. Princes: Priests whose great duty it was to "teach" the people the Law and Word of God. (Deuteronomy 17:11, 33:10). Jacob: "All of Israel." Israel's problems would come as a result of their continued disobedience and rebellion. Want to have problems in your life? Keep listening to false teachers and traditions of men instead of the truth in God's Word, and you will. The subject of this prophecy concerning the servants of the Lord.
Isaiah 44
Isa 44:1 Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen: Listen Israel My chosen one.
Isa 44:2 Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen. Jesurun: Reference to (Deuteronomy 32:15, 33:5).
Isa 44:3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: Water upon him that is thirsty: Those who thirst for the truth. Pour My Spirit: Referring to the "Holy Spirit." (Joel 2:28). These promises all refer to the day of Israel's future restoration.
Isa 44:4 And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.
Isa 44:5 One shall say, I am the LORD'S; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel. The Jews not being so popular for the things they have done, but in the end times, people will suddenly want to be like them. (Zechariah 8:20-23), in the end times many people from all nations will go to Jerusalem to seek the Lord.
Isa 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. Israel's King and Kinsman Redeemer. "The first and the Last." There is no other God. (Revelation 22:13).
Isa 44:7 And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them. No one is like God. No one could have done what He has done in the past. What did He do? He made the nation of Israel an everlasting nation, like the Covenant. Delivered them from the nations which oppressed Israel. (Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Rome). "He will do it again in the near future."
Isa 44:8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any. Proclaimed His purpose long ago. (Genesis 28:13-15). "No other God but Him."
Isa 44:9 They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed. Are people so foolish that they believe an idol or graven image can do anything for them? Some really believe this, and in the end times will be put to shame. (Psalm 115:8, 135:18, Romans 1:22, Ephesians 4:18).
Isa 44:10 Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing? Only a fool would trust in an idol that cannot help them. (Jeremiah 10:5). "It appears we have a lot of fools out there."
Isa 44:11 Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together. All who worship or pray to idols and images will be disgraced. Why wouldn't they be? How many people today pray to statues and images when they can pray to the "real thing." If you are going to pray or ask for help, ask the "Heavenly Father." Only He can help you in time of need. (Not any man or image).
Isa 44:12 The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint. The blacksmith who makes an idol just becomes hungry, thirsty and weak as he makes the idol. "Not with God."
Isa 44:13 The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house. The wood-carver cuts a human figure out of a block of wood and puts it in a shrine.
Isa 44:14 He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it. Cuts down trees and plants new ones to be nourished by the rain.
Isa 44:15 Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto. He uses part of the wood to make a fire to warm himself and bakes bread. Then he takes the rest of it and makes an idol (a false god), to worship.
Isa 44:16 He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire: Burns part of a tree to stay warm and says, "that feels so good."
Isa 44:17 And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god. Then he takes the remainder of the wood and carves an image of a person (prophet or saint), to pray to it.
Isa 44:18 They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand. How stupid and ignorant! They are blind and "cannot see," their minds are shut and "cannot think." If you want to be "stupid and ignorant" to the truth, God will even help you. (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12), "God will send you strong delusion, that you would believe a lie."
Isa 44:19 And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree? Little irony here... You burn part of a tree and worship what is made from the rest of it. "How is it that the rest of the tree can be a god?"
Isa 44:20 He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand? Trust in something that cannot help you and your "living in fantasy land." (Proverbs 15:14).
Isa 44:21 Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me. Pay attention, "Israel." I the Lord made you to be My servant, and I will not forget you.
Isa 44:22 I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee. "Kinsman redeemer." God led them out of slavery in Egypt. However, we have been all purchased by God (the price was paid), through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers. (1 Peter 1:18). It is not flesh body, material things, and traditions of men that will save you. Only Christ does the saving. But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. (1 Peter 1:19). It was the shedding of the blood of Christ. The sinless, spotless, "Lamb of God."
Isa 44:23 Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel. God put the trees their for our purpose, but not to be made into idols and worshipped.
Isa 44:24 Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself; God is the Redeemer and Creator, the One who made all things from the beginning. (John 1:3, Ephesians 3:9, Colossians 1:16-17, Hebrews 1:2, 1:10).
Isa 44:25 That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish; I expose the false prophets as liars (False teachers). I make fools of fortune tellers. I even cause the so called wise to give bad advice, proving them to be fools. (1 Corinthians 3:19-20).
Isa 44:26 That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof: However, God will carry out the predictions of His servant. (i.e. Isaiah). In the end times God will restore Jerusalem. I here so many times from people who say, "God didn't write the bible, man did." This is such a cop-out, because they can't handle the truth of the Word. Prophecy did not come from the will of man, but by holy men that were moved by the "Holy Spirit." (2 Peter 1:19-21).
Isa 44:27 That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers: The deep: i.e. The Euphrates, on which Babylon was built. I will dry up: Literally fulfilled, at the taking of Babylon, by Cyrus through his general, Gobryas. (Jeremiah 50:38). Also, reference to the end times in (Revelation 16:12).
Isa 44:28 That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid. Cyrus (a gentile), was the king of Persia that would conquer Babylon in 538 B.C. (Isaiah 45:13, 2 Chronicles 36:22-23, Ezra 1:1-3, 6:3-18).
Isaiah 45
Isa 45:1 Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut; Cyrus, anointed and called by God. Loose the loins: Weakening (opposite of girding). To open: All the streets of Babylon, leading on each side to the river, were secured by two leaved brazen gates, and these were providentially left open when Cyrus's forces entered the city in the night, through the channel of the river, in the general disorder occasioned by the great feast which was then celebrated; otherwise, the Persians would have been shut up in the bed of the river, as in a net, and all destroyed. The gates of the palace were also imprudently opened to ascertain the occasion of the tumult; when the two parties under Gobrias and Gadatas rushed in, got possession of the palace, and slew the king. (Nahum 2:6).
Isa 45:2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron: The Lord would go before Cyrus and clear the way. (Psalm 107:16).
Isa 45:3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel. Cyrus became very wealthy from all he had conquered with the help of God. Call thee by name: Only four named by Divine prophecy before birth: Isaac (Genesis 17:19); Solomon (1 Chronicles 22:9); Josiah (1 Kings 13:2); and Cyrus, 137 years before his birth.
Isa 45:4 For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me. By thy name: Surnamed, Cyrus was the additional name divinely given. His Persian name is said to have been Agradates.
Isa 45:5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: The Lord equipped Cyrus for battle though he didn't even know God. (Cyrus was a pagan and gave his victories to other gods). God uses whom ever He wills to do good things, even if they don't believe in Him.
Isa 45:6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else. For all to know there is only one God and no other. (Psalm 46:10, 83:18, 102:15-16).
Isa 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. The creator of all things, good time and bad times. However, God does not tempt us with sin, "that is the job of Satan." Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man. (James 1:13). Remember when someone wants you to do wrong, or that little voice inside you is telling you to do the wrong thing, it is not from God. God never tempts someone to do wrong and will never let you be tempted with something more than you can handle. But, He will always show you a way out. (I Corinthians 10:13). And if you say what burden has the Lord put on me today, you better watch out, because the Lord may punish you for it. (Jeremiah 23:33-34).
Isa 45:8 Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it. Let the earth open: When the earth opened before it brought forth destruction (Numbers 16:32, 26:10, Psalm 106:17). Now it will bring forth salvation.
Isa 45:9 Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands? Don't argue with the creator, your only asking for trouble. (Proverbs 21:30, 1 Corinthians 10:22).
Isa 45:10 Woe unto him that saith unto his father, What begettest thou? or to the woman, What hast thou brought forth? A terrible thing to say to a parent; "why was I born," or "why did you make me this way?" Even more terrible if you question God this way. (Very common questions among many today who have difficulty with their gender). "Don't blame or question God, He loves all His children."
Isa 45:11 Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me. Never question what God does for His children. (2 Corinthians 6:18, Galatians 3:26-29). Never question the works of His hands. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10). Chosen before in the first world age, and it is God Himself who has made us what we are. He has given us new lives through Jesus Christ, that we should spend these lives helping others. Our works do not save us, but it is the only thing we can take with us when we die. (Revelation 14:13).
Isa 45:12 I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded. The creator of everything from the beginning. (Every star in heaven).
Isa 45:13 I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my captives, not for price nor reward, saith the LORD of hosts. Raised him up: i.e. raised Cyrus up. Build my city: Nehemiah rebuilt only the walls. (Nehemiah 7:4). The city was not rebuilt until after the return under Zerubbabel, and the emancipation by Cyrus. (Cyrus was a type of savior). (See appendix 68).
Isa 45:14 Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God. You will rule: (i.e. Cyrus), the Egyptians, the Ethiopians, and the Sabeans: That the Sabeans were of a most majestic appearance is particularly remarked by Agatharchides, an ancient Greek historian quoted by Bochart. (Job 1:15, Ezekiel 23:42, Joel 3:8).
Isa 45:15 Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour. The pagan gods were just statues to look at. (No good for anything else). Our God (the God of Israel), is a Sprit, "an invisible God." (1 Timothy 1:17).
Isa 45:16 They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: they shall go to confusion together that are makers of idols. All those who make idols and pray to them will be humiliated and disgraced. (Psalm 97:7). If you want to follow these idols, God will let you. But, why would you?
Isa 45:17 But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end. All Israel (all His children), will be saved with eternal salvation without end. And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him. (Hebrews 5:9). Christ became qualified by the Heavenly Father to become the perfect High Priest and the main source of eternal salvation for all those who obey Him and believe in Him. (1 John 5:13). Yes, eternal salvation without end. But, do you see the conditions here? "We must obey Him and believe in Him first." Then, we shall not be ashamed: (Romans 10:11, 1 Peter 2:6).
Isa 45:18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else. He created the heavens and the earth and put everything in place. (Genesis 1:1). Then the earth became void, it was not created that way. (Genesis 1:2). This is when Satan rebelled, when the first earth age was destroyed. Then He "created" the earth to be lived in. (Genesis 1:3-28). Forget evolution, it's a lie! (Read our study topic titled "The Three Earth Ages," for a better understanding).
Isa 45:19 I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right. Even though our God is an invisible God, He reveals Himself to us through His Word. We just need to seek Him and trust Him. (Deuteronomy 4:29, Psalm 69:32, Jeremiah 29:13, Amos 5:4).
Isa 45:20 Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save. Even today we have those praying to and trusting in their man made images. "Wake up people." "They can't do anything for you." (Psalm 115:8). Others trust in worldly things such as money, alcohol, drugs, sex, etc. (Romans 3:23), we are all sinners, but these things won't help you spiritually. "Only God can save you and get you through tough times."
Isa 45:21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me. Get your act together and make your decision. Was it an idol or statue that would tell you these things of long ago? No way. There is no other God, but the One and only true God and Savior.
Isa 45:22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. Let the world look to the One true God; there is no other. (Titus 2:13).
Isa 45:23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. It will happen in the end time at the return of Christ. "Every knee shall bow." (Romans 14:10-12, Philippians 2:10).
Isa 45:24 Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed. Some people will declare that the Lord is the source of all their righteousness and strength. (Ephesians 3:16, Philippians 4:13, Colossians 1:11, 2 Timothy 4:17-18). However, their are people who do not believe in God or are angry with Him. They are the ones who will be ashamed in the end times at the return of Christ. (Revelations 11:18).
Isa 45:25 In the LORD shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory. All the generations of Israel: That's you my friend. (Galatians 3:27-29). "They will be justified and shall glory." (1 Corinthians 1:31, 2 Corinthians 10:17).
Isaiah 46
Isa 46:1 Bel boweth down, Nebo stoopeth, their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your carriages were heavy loaden; they are a burden to the weary beast. Bel: Short for Baal. Here is Zeus, or Jupiter of the Greek and Roman mythology. Nebo: Egyptian Anubis, Greek Hermes, and Roman Mercurius (Acts 14:12). These false gods were indeed brought down. (Jeremiah 50:2, 51:44). (They would load these gods on carts and use them in their procession. (Amos 5:26). They were a heavy burden to the animals carrying them, but would also become a burden to the people. (Jeremiah 10:5). (People still doing it today, parading their images on carts, even men parading themselves around in protective vehicles).
Isa 46:2 They stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the burden, but themselves are gone into captivity. Both the idols and the owners are bowed down. But, the gods cannot protect the people, and the people cannot protect the idol gods. (Now they both go off into captivity). Totally worthless.
Isa 46:3 Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb: Listen up! Note the two calls here, one to Jacob and one to the remnant of the house of Israel. (God knew you before you were born). "God carried them from the womb."
Isa 46:4 And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. God made all of us and when we believe and trust in Him, He will care for us and save us. (Psalm 48:14, 71:18).
Isa 46:5 To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like? No one is equal to God. (Keep in mind, Satan will claim to be god in the end times and deceive many).
Isa 46:6 They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance, and hire a goldsmith; and he maketh it a god: they fall down, yea, they worship. Bowing down to idols made of silver and gold and worship it. What a bunch of idiots. "Listening to traditions of men instead of God."
Isa 46:7 They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he standeth; from his place shall he not remove: yea, one shall cry unto him, yet can he not answer, nor save him out of his trouble. The idols they pray to don't move, listen, or speak, and can't do anything. Again, totally worthless.
Isa 46:8 Remember this, and shew yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors. Don't forget what I have said! "All of you who are guilty of false teachings and worship." (i.e. Quit following traditions of men and use common sense).
Isa 46:9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Keep in mind all the things I have done for you in the past. I Am the One true God, and there is no other like Me.
Isa 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: All prophecy is given by God, everything He plans will and has come to pass. (Acts 15:18, Romans 11:33-34). "God does as He wills."
Isa 46:11 Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it. Ravenous bird: An "Eagle," that was a proper emblem for Cyrus, because the "ensign" of Cyrus was a golden eagle. The man that executes My counsel: i.e. Cyrus (a type of Messiah), set apart by God for this special service. (A Gentile not even born yet, used by God to accomplish what would happen). "It all came to pass just as it was written."
Isa 46:12 Hearken unto me, ye stouthearted, that are far from righteousness: A stubborn hard headed people. (Acts 7:51). Know anyone like that?
Isa 46:13 I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not tarry: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory. God is ready to set things right! Not in the distant future, but right now! He will save Jerusalem and show His glory to Israel. (Again, the coming of Cyrus was a type and forerunner of the coming of Christ in power). "It is in Christ that God's righteousness and salvation are at last brought to a stubborn Israel." (Jeremiah 33:9, 2 Thessalonians 1:10, 1:12).
Isaiah 47
Isa 47:1 Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate. This is a call to Babylon, and also a call to Satan in the end times "the spoiler." (Jeremiah 48:18). Sister Babylon of the end times. (Revelation 18:7), she is the queen and Satan is her king.
Isa 47:2 Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers. Remove your veil and expose all your lies and deception.
Isa 47:3 Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man. You will be naked (exposed), and ashamed, and God will take vengeance against you. (Jeremiah 51:56, Revelation 16:19, 18:5-8, 18:20).
Isa 47:4 As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel. Redeemer: (Jeremiah 50:33-34). Our Lord "Yahveh" the Holy One of Israel.
Isa 47:5 Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms. Will be know as the queen of kingdoms no more. (Cyrus would put Babylon out of business, just like will happen in the end times).
Isa 47:6 I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst shew them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke. God was angry with His people and would give them over to the Babylonians for judgment.
Isa 47:7 And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it. You thought you would queen of the world forever. "No Way."
Isa 47:8 Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children: You live in ease and feel so secure, thinking there is no other. How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. (Revelation 18:7). God doesn't glorify her. She glorifies herself with her followers, (those who live deliciously), the biggest and prettiest church. We are so wealthy and smart. She also identifies herself as a queen, and her king is none other than Satan himself. "The Antichrist." DO NOT BE DECEIVED!
Isa 47:9 But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments. You will lose everything in a moment, despite all your demonic forces. (Revelation 18:8-10).
Isa 47:10 For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me. Thinking she is totally self sufficient. Do you follow her, Babylon (confusion), or the world? For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. (1 Corinthians 3:19). God traps the worldly wise in a trap of their own cleverness. (Isaiah 44:25, Romans 1:21-22, 1 Corinthians 1:19-20, 2:6).
Isa 47:11 Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know. Disaster will overtake you and you won't be able to put it off. Calamity will fall upon you, and you won't be able to buy your way out. Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. (Revelation 3:3). Remember that Christ will return as a thief in the night, and you do not want to be in confusion.
Isa 47:12 Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail. All your spells and charms will do nothing for you.
Isa 47:13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. Your astrologers who make monthly predictions. They can't save you! (God gave us the stars for signs and seasons, not to make a religion out of them). (Genesis 1:14-16).
Isa 47:14 Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it. They can't save themselves from the flame, so you will get no help from them. Reference to (Matthew 10:28), Don't fear man or Satan who can only kill the body. Fear God, who is able to destroy both the body and soul.
Isa 47:15 Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee. The one world system of the end times, "Babylon," will not be able to help you, and no one will be able to save Babylon. And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more: (Revelation 18:11). Selling religion! "They can't help you." How many churches and ministries are all about the money today? Waiting to rip you off with the Word and their religious doctrine and products. (It won't be there anymore).
Isaiah 48
Isa 48:1 Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness. God's going to have a little talk with Israel. They swear that they follow Yahveh, but it is just a bunch of words. "They don't really know the Lord." (Jeremiah 5:2). Just as so many today who play church, but have no knowledge of the truth. (Matthew 15:8-9). Why? Because their hypocrite leaders devour them with long prayers and traditions of men. (Matthew 23:14, 1 Timothy 4:2). Then their are those who are just phony and lovers of themselves. They love the ways of the world more than God. (2 Timothy 3:2-5).
Isa 48:2 For they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Israel; The LORD of hosts is his name. You call yourself holy, but your not.
Isa 48:3 I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I shewed them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass. I told you everything that would happen before and My predictions came true.
Isa 48:4 Because I knew that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy brow brass; A bunch of stiff necked hard heads. Ever meet someone like that? Know matter what truth you may give them, they just blow you off.
Isa 48:5 I have even from the beginning declared it to thee; before it came to pass I shewed it thee: lest thou shouldest say, Mine idol hath done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, hath commanded them. Told them everything from the beginning about what He would do. (Proof to them that their idols could do nothing).
Isa 48:6 Thou hast heard, see all this; and will not ye declare it? I have shewed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them. All Gods predictions came true, but they would not admit it. Now they are going to hear some new things they never heard before.
Isa 48:7 They are created now, and not from the beginning; even before the day when thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them. These are totally new things, so you can't say we knew that before.
Isa 48:8 Yea, thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not; yea, from that time that thine ear was not opened: for I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb. God held these things back till He is ready, because He knew what traitors and rebels the people were from the beginning. (Jeremiah 5:11, Hosea 6:7, Malachi 2:11, Ephesians 2:3).
Isa 48:9 For my name's sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off. It's only because of God's mercy that they are not destroyed. (Psalm 79:9, Jeremiah 14:7).
Isa 48:10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. Refined in the furnace of fire. Furnace of affliction: Through humiliation and oppression. God will refine our faith in the same way. That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1:7). These trials show that your faith is genuine and is the testing of your faith. When your faith remains strong it will bring you praise, honor and glory when Christ returns at the second advent.
Isa 48:11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another. God will not let His reputation be tarnished.
Isa 48:12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last. The One and only God, The First and the Last.
Isa 48:13 Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together. God laid the foundation of the earth, and spread out the heavens.
Isa 48:14 All ye, assemble yourselves, and hear; which among them hath declared these things? The LORD hath loved him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans. Cyrus would execute God's will on Babylon. Christ will execute God's will on Babylon of the end times.
Isa 48:15 I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him: I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous. Calling on Cyrus here, or calling on the Messiah in the end times.
Isa 48:16 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me. Not spoken in secret: Reference to (Deuteronomy 30:11, Isaiah 45:19). His Spirit, hath sent Me: i.e. the prophet (Isaiah), and His (God's) Spirit, "The Holy Spirit." Take this to the future sense: We have the great doctrine of the Trinity. God the Father, Messiah the Son (Prophet), and the Holy Spirit. (Luke 4:18).
Isa 48:17 Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go. This is not speaking of becoming wealthy. It is speaking of how God teaches us what is good for us, and leads us down the path we should follow. (Psalm 32:8).
Isa 48:18 O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea: If you would have listened to My instruction, things would have went a lot smoother. (Matthew 23:37, Luke 19:41-42). When you obey God and His commandments, life is much easier and you can experience peace, even in this hectic world. (Psalm 119:165, Amos 5:24, Romans 14:17).
Isa 48:19 Thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like the gravel thereof; his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me. As the sand: Reference to (Genesis 22:17, 32:12).
Isa 48:20 Go ye forth of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The LORD hath redeemed his servant Jacob. Come out of Babylon (confusion). Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the Lord: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the Lord. (Jeremiah 3:18), When the northern tribes were taken out of their land by the Assyrians (from 740-719 B.C.), they were concentrated in a camp in northern Persia. When Babylon grew in power, the Assyrians went to war. This gave the Israelites the occasion to escape. Many of the Assyrian guards went along, and they escaped to the north and west over the Caucasus mountains and settled in Europe and the Americas. This can also be applied to God's people of the end times. And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. (Revelation 18:4). We are to come away from her (Babylon), and not take part in her sins. We do not need to worry about, or tolerate any of the plagues when we know the truth of God's Word. That is what salvation is all about. "Come out of confusion."
Isa 48:21 And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them: he clave the rock also, and the waters gushed out. He led them through the desert: Reference to (Exodus 17:6, Deuteronomy 8:2-3). When ever God leads you, He will take care of you.
Isa 48:22 There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked. No rest for the wicked (the lawless ones). (Luke 19:42, Romans 3:17). Just like the song says: "There ain't no rest for the wicked, till they close their eyes for good."
Isaiah 49
Isa 49:1 Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. Listen-up all you people from around the world. Hath called Me: Speaking of the Messiah fulfilled in (Matthew 1:18-25, Luke 1:28). As prophesied in (Isaiah 7:14).
Isa 49:2 And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me; Sharp sword: The doctrine of the gospel that can pierce the hearts of the hearers. Clearly speaking of Jesus the "Messiah." (Revelation 1:16, 2:12, 19:15). Polished shaft: Referring to the purity of the "Messiah." Hid Me: So it would be thirty years at Nazareth.
Isa 49:3 And said unto me, Thou art my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified. My servant, O Israel: Israel = "Prince of God." Christ is called "Israel," in the same way He is called "David," and "Jacob." (Psalm 24:6). I will be glorified: The Son of man glorified, and God glorified in Him. (John 13:31-32, John 17:1).
Isa 49:4 Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: yet surely my judgment is with the LORD, and my work with my God. I said: i.e. said to Myself, or Jesus speaking to Himself. I have spent My strength for nothing and to no purpose. Jesus was the Word, the Son of God, and God Himself. However, He came to His own people and they did not receive Him. (Matthew 23:37, John 1:11, Romans 10:21). Was His ministry a failed ministry. "Not for Him and those who believe." Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2). Endure till the end by keeping your eyes on Jesus, the one who endured the cross, and is now sitting at the right hand of God. "Jesus left everything in the Lord's hands, including Hid judgment." And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. (Philippians 2:9). He humbled Himself and became obedient to God and died on the cross for you. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: (Philippians 2:10). Therefore God gave him the highest honor and gave Him the name above all other names. That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth. (Philippians 2:11). At the name of Jesus every knee will bow at His return. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:11). And every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Isa 49:5 And now, saith the LORD that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, and my God shall be my strength. The main mission of Jesus was to bring Israel back to God. Israel was not gathered at His first coming because He was rejected (John 1:11), but Israel will be gathered at His second coming. (Genesis 49:10, Isaiah 11:1-6, Jeremiah 23:5, Matthew 24:29-30, Revelation 20:1-7).
Isa 49:6 And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth. I will also give: Quoted in (Luke 2:32, Acts 13:47). Gentiles: All "nations," all people. (Isaiah 52:10, Psalm 98:2-3, Luke 24:46-47).
Isa 49:7 Thus saith the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the LORD that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee. Redeemer: Kinsman Redeemer (Revelation 3:7). Jesus was despised and rejected at His first coming (Matthew 26:67, Luke 23:18, John 1:11, John 19:6). He will be worshipped at His second coming. (Philippians 2:9-11).
Isa 49:8 Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages; An acceptable time: As quoted in (2 Corinthians 6:2). Covenant of the people: Jesus brought a new contract agreement between God and us. (Matthew 26:28, Hebrews 12:24).
Isa 49:9 That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darkness, Shew yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places. The prisoners: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison. (1 Peter 3:19). Christ even went to the spirits in prison (after the crucifixion), so that they may have a chance at salvation. Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. (1 Peter 3:20). These were all the souls who sinned before the savior and crucifixion. This was their chance of salvation and eternal life, if they believe upon Him. God is always fair when it comes to His children. Those in darkness: To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. (Luke 1:79). To give light or peace of mind to those who sit in darkness. (Isaiah 9:2). We are like the sheep grazing in green pastures. We are to bring light to the world. (Ephesians 5:8, 5:14, 1 Thessalonians 5:5), We are "children of the light."
Isa 49:10 They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them. They shall hunger no more: Quoted in (Revelation 7:16). Shall He guide them: (Psalm 23:2-4, Jeremiah 31:9, John 10:3-4). He will keep you from evil and preserve your soul. (Psalm 121).
Isa 49:11 And I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be exalted. All obstacles will be removed and the road will be made straight. (Luke 3:4-5, John 14:6).
Isa 49:12 Behold, these shall come from far: and, lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim. People will return from all over the world. Sinim: Some translations have this as "from as far south as Egypt." However, the proper translation would be from a land of the Oriental region (China). (Luke 13:29, (Revelation 7:9).
Isa 49:13 Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted. When the children of God are suffering, He does not forget them. He will have compassion on them, and the people rejoice. (Jeremiah 31:13, Revelation 7:9-12).
Isa 49:14 But Zion said, The LORD hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me. A little trouble and the people think the Lord has deserted them. Same happens to us today when we go through difficult times. Many of us think that the Lord has deserted us.
Isa 49:15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Many times you will find a child that has been abandoned by their parents. Not so uncommon in this world of alcoholics, drug addicts, and uncaring parents. However, God will never abandon His children. (Proverbs 27:10).
Isa 49:16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me. Your name is written on the palm of God's hand. He will always remember and love you.
Isa 49:17 Thy children shall make haste; thy destroyers and they that made thee waste shall go forth of thee. Your sons will come out of Babylon and return to rebuild Jerusalem.
Isa 49:18 Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith the LORD, thou shalt surely clothe thee with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on thee, as a bride doeth. Those coming back to the land will be like ornaments for you to display. Future reference to (Revelation 21:2).
Isa 49:19 For thy waste and thy desolate places, and the land of thy destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, and they that swallowed thee up shall be far away. Even the desolate parts of the land will be full of people. And many nations shall be joined to the Lord in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me unto thee. (Zechariah 2:11). Many will join themselves to the Lord on that day and will be His people. What day? "The Lords day." (Revelation 11:15), The seventh and final trump, the return of Christ, and the time we put on our spiritual bodies. The Lord and His anointed shall now rule the world from this day to eternity.
Isa 49:20 The children which thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, The place is too strait for me: give place to me that I may dwell. From being a nation that lost so many people, to a nation of countless people with not enough room. (Hosea 1:10). But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. (Galatians 4:26). But our mother-city is the "Heavenly Jerusalem" and she is not a slave to Jewish laws. (Isaiah 2:2, Hebrews 12:22, Revelation 3:12, 21:2). For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband. (Galatians 4:27). That was what was prophesied by Isaiah. "Shout with joy childless woman who never before had a child." I am going to give you many children, even more than the slave-wife has. (Isaiah 54:1). Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise. (Galatians 4:28). We are now all children that God promised, just as Isaac was. (Romans 4:16).
Isa 49:21 Then shalt thou say in thine heart, Who hath begotten me these, seeing I have lost my children, and am desolate, a captive, and removing to and fro? and who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where had they been? The people will think and say; "where did all these people come from." How is this possible? From the nations around the world, "all those who believe in Christ." And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. (Galatians 2:29). If we are of Christ, then we are true descendants of Abraham, and all of the promises to him belong to us also. (Romans 8:17, 9:7, Hebrews 11:18).
Isa 49:22 Thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people: and they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders. Speaking of the Gentile nations here. (Psalm 86:9, Malachi 1:11). My Standard: "Christ is the Standard." The Gentiles will help in restoring Israel to it's land. (This started taking place in 1948, when Israel became a nation again). The generation of the fig tree, the last generation.
Isa 49:23 And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD: for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me. Kings: Cyrus, Darius, Artaxerxes, and other Persian monarchs, as well as Alexander the Great, and his successors, particularly Demetrius, conferred many privileges and immunities on the Jewish people, and were munificent benefactors to their temple. But the prophecy was more remarkably and fully fulfilled in the favour which Constantine the Great, and other Christian princes and princesses from his time to the present day, have shewn to the church of Christ; though it cannot be disputed, that the grand and signal accomplishment of these predictions is yet future. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. (Revelation 21:24). "Nations" plural is #1484 in the Strong's Concordance. Meaning (Ethnos) which are the (non-Jewish) or Gentiles. Abraham was to be the father of all nations. All those saved by the Word of God and His salvation. (Isaiah 60:1-3, 18-22), Spoken of in the prophets of old, talking about the eternity. The Kings = those nation leaders that come to bring glory to God. Written long ago in the old testament. (Isaiah 60:11-12, 18-22), "The time of the end when God dwells with us."
Isa 49:24 Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered? God is in control, only He could accomplish this.
Isa 49:25 But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children. God will fight those against you. (Zechariah 14:3). Nothing can keep God from rescuing His people. "If God is for you, no one can be against you." (Romans 8:31-39).
Isa 49:26 And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the LORD am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob. Trouble for those who are against God and shed the blood of God's people. For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy. (Revelation 16:6). The blood is poured out upon those who have martyred the saints and prophets of the past. Those who have done this deserve what they get. Many believe this ties in with Rome because they persecuted many Christians, and the Romans had their part in the crucifixion of Christ. (Again, this would be another type in the end times, just as the King of Babylon, or King of Tyre). But, do not forget the other group that was present at the crucifixion of Christ, who stirred up the crowd to crucify Him. "The Kenites (those claiming to be Jews)." Not our brother Judah. These were the ones pretending to be Jews, but were not of our brother Judah, but rather the son's of the devil. (John 8:44, Matthew 23: 30-35).
Isaiah 50
Isa 50:1 Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away. God knows about divorce. He divorced Israel (Jeremiah 3:8). However, their captivity and afflictions are the fruits of their own folly and wickedness. (Jeremiah 4:18).
Isa 50:2 Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for thirst. When I came: Messiah speaking; was there no man? (Proverbs 1:24, Jeremiah 7:13, Hosea 11:7, John 1:11). And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. (John 3:19). Here's the facts about judgment: God's light (Jesus), came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, because their actions were evil. It's so easy in this world today to follow the majority and the ways of the world. (Romans 2:8, 1 Peter 2:8), God will pour out His wrath on those who live for themselves and refuse to obey the truth in the Word. Those who choose to live lives of wickedness and follow evil ways of the world. (2 Thessalonians 2:10-12), If you want to be ignorant of God's Word and follow lies, deception, and traditions of men; God will send you strong delusion to believe those lies. He will close your eyes to the truth. (Isaiah 29:10). Look at how people are so comfortable with their teachings. Comfortable with their spirit of slumber. "The Word can even become their stumbling block." When they play church and follow traditions of men they will not understand the truth of God's Word. Christ can become a stumbling block to them. How can Christ become a stumbling block? Remember that the Anti-Christ comes first and will deceive many into believing he is the real Christ. He will be the stumbling block to those who follow him. God will also let you be deceived and believe a lie if you do not follow the truth of the Word. (2 Thessalonians 2:5-11).
Isa 50:3 I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering. God made darkness spread over Egypt (Exodus 10:21). God made darkness from the sixth hour to the ninth hour at the crucifixion. (Matthew 27:45). Darkness will come at the opening of the sixth seal. (Revelation 6:12).
Isa 50:4 The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned. The Messiah speaking and saying that the Father gave Him the tongue of the learned (disciple). That I should know: He only spoke the words given to Him by the Father. Seven times this was asserted by Messiah. (John 7:16, 8:28, 8:46-47, 12:49, 14:10, 14:24, 17:8). "Seven being spiritual completeness." To hear as the learned: To hearken as do the instructed. (accomplished through the Holy Spirit).
Isa 50:5 The Lord GOD hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back. Jesus, even being equal with God; Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: (Philippians 2:6), Thought He was God; He did not think of equality with God, even though it would not have been robbery to equal Himself to God. He was Emanuel; God with us. (He was willing to serve God and placed Himself under the authority of The Father).
Isa 50:6 I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting. Fulfilled in (Matthew 26:67, 27:26, 27:28-30). And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. (Matthew 27:28). Trying to shame the people. And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! (Matthew 27:29). They placed that crown of thorns on His head and knelt before Him in mockery. And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. (Matthew 27:30). Beating even the crown of thorns on His head.
Isa 50:7 For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed. Set My face like a flint: The word flint used here is H2496 "challamiysh," (in the sense of hardness); flint, or rock). i.e. His death was not just an event that happened. He "accomplished" it Himself. Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. (Luke 9:31). Glorious to see them speaking together about His exodus from the world which would be fulfilled soon. After saying this, "He steadfastly set His face," as explained above "like a flint." He laid down His life Himself; but not till His hour (the right hour), had come. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. (John 15:15). Jesus is saying that just as He knows His children, His Father knows Him, and as His children know Him, He knows the Father. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. (John 15:16). Jesus tells us about other sheep that He has that are not of this sheepfold. He says that He must bring them also, and they will listen to His voice when He calls to them. Then their will be just one flock and One Shepherd. Of course the "One Shepherd" will be Christ, but who are the "other sheep" He is talking about? Some say that this is referring to the ten lost tribes of Israel that migrated to Europe and America. However, I believe that here He is talking about the Gentile nations. (Revelation 5:9), Christ's blood has bought our salvation if we accept it, and "all" can have eternal life. (Other sheep not from the fold of Israel will also make it to the flock of God). Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. (John 15:17). The Father loves Me because I lay down My life for these people, so I can take it back again. (Hebrews 2:9), They seen it! Christ suffered the death for us, and "He is now crowned with glory and honor." He tasted and defeated death for all of us. (John 3:16), never forget it; this is one of the most important verses in the bible. His purpose foretold in the book of Isaiah. (Isaiah 42:1-7), Jesus will also be the light to the gentiles and those who are prisoners to darkness. (Those all the way back to Adam and Noah's time). No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. (John 15:18). No one can take the life from Jesus. He sacrificed it voluntarily. He has the authority to lay His life down when He wants and to take it up again at His will. This is what the Heavenly Father has commanded. (He made the choice to die for you because He loves you).
Isa 50:8 He is near that justifieth me; who will contend with me? let us stand together: who is mine adversary? let him come near to me. No one can convict Him, and no one can bring charges against Him. Let His accusers even try to appear! Will one try? Hmmm, There is still one accuser out there that will try to accuse us. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. (Revelation 12:10). The accuser is Satan himself who accuses us today when we fall short, just as he did to Job in the Old Testament. (Job 1:6-11).
Isa 50:9 Behold, the Lord GOD will help me; who is he that shall condemn me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the moth shall eat them up. Even though His own disciples turned their backs on Him, the crowds shouted crucify Him, the people He created beat and mocked Him, the ones who should have known better judged Him and condemned His to a horrible death on the cross. Even after all this, "He trusted in the Heavenly Father to take care of Him." "He lived by faith." How is your faith doing my friend? Do you trust in God when trials and tribulation come upon you?
Isa 50:10 Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God. When it appears your walking in darkness without any light in your life, trust in the Lord and rely on Him and only Him. (1 Peter 5:7). The Heavenly Father cares for you, just as a mother or father cares for their child. Even more, because He is your Heavenly Father that created you. "Don't walk around in this world in darkness." (Confusion). I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. (John 12:46). Christ is the light of the world. Put your trust in Jesus and you will not walk in darkness or confusion. (John 8:12).
Isa 50:11 Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow. But watch out! If you try to live in your own light, or the light of the this world, the reward will not be so good. You will soon fail and fall into great torment. In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: (2 Thessalonians 1:8). Taking vengeance on those against God and those who follow Satan. Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; (2 Thessalonians 1:9). They will be punished in everlasting hell; forever separated from the Lord, never to see the glory of His power.
Isaiah 51
Isa 51:1 Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the LORD: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged. Listen-up, all who hope for deliverance, "all who seek the Lord," (The condition). Consider your roots from which you came.
Isa 51:2 Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him. Think of Abraham and Sarah; Abraham was only one man when I called him. But, when I blessed him, he became a great nation, Abraham means "father of many nations." (Genesis 22:17).
Isa 51:3 For the LORD shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody. God is promising here that Jerusalem (a deserted wasteland), will be like "the garden of the Lord." Like "Eden." Reference to: (Genesis 2:8-9, 13:10, Ezekiel 31:8-10, Joel 2:3).
Isa 51:4 Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people. What law? i.e. The law of Moses, which was Yahveh's revealed instruction. Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. (Malachi 4:4). The laws of the ten commandments. (Deuteronomy 5:7, Romans 3:31, 13:1-10), The ceremonial and sacrificial laws were done away with after the crucifixion because Christ became our Passover and Sacrificial lamb, but the laws of the ten commandments still stand. (Romans 8:2-4).
Isa 51:5 My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust. Salvation is already on the way. (Salvation through Jesus Christ). God's strong arm will bring justice to the nations. (Romans 2:16, 2 Corinthians 5:10).
Isa 51:6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished. It's all going to go down that way in the end times. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. (2 Peter 3:10). Be on guard and know the season for His return, when all evil (all the wicked & rudiments) will be burned up. Judgment Day! Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness. (2 Peter 3:11). What should you do to be prepared? Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? (2 Peter 3:12). Looking forward to the day of the Lord when He will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt in the flames. Remember that God is a consuming fire and He will destroy this Heaven and Earth age, for there is a "new" heaven and "new" earth age to come. (His salvation lasts forever and His righteous rule will never end).
Isa 51:7 Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings. Listen to the Lord... Those who know right from wrong and keep His law in their hearts. "Don't fear them who are against you." Reference to: (Matthew 10:28, Luke 12:4-5). And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28). Only God can destroy your soul. Your soul is yourself. The spirit is the intellect of the soul. (Destroy #622 in the Strong's is to perish). God can blot you out as though you never existed, just as Satan is sentenced to perish. Once the anointed cherub that guarded the mercy seat of God will perish forever. (Ezekiel 28:14-19).
Isa 51:8 For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation. Speaking of those against you. Don't worry about them, they will destroy themselves with their false teachings and traditions of men. But, God's righteousness will last forever, and His salvation from generation to generation. (Luke 1:50).
Isa 51:9 Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon? Rahab = Egypt. Reference to (Psalm 87:4, 89:10). Wounded the dragon: Reference to (Ezekiel 29:3). God's people calling out to God to deliver them like He did in Egypt.
Isa 51:10 Art thou not it which hath dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; that hath made the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over? Dried up the sea: Reference to Israel when they crossed the Red Sea. (Exodus 14:29). Ransomed used here = Redeemed (by price, or blood), H1350 "gaal."
Isa 51:11 Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away. Redeemed used here = Ransom, or Redeemed (by power), H6299 "padah." Those who have been ransomed by the Lord will return to Jerusalem in the end times. (Revelation 7:9-10).
Isa 51:12 I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass; I am the One who comforts you, not man. Why are you so afraid of humans who wither like grass? (1 Peter 1:24).
Isa 51:13 And forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor? You have forgotten the Lord, who created you. "Who created everything." You don't need to fear your human enemies, and you don't need to fear the antichrist during the "great tribulation." (Revelation 19:20).
Isa 51:14 The captive exile hasteneth that he may be loosed, and that he should not die in the pit, nor that his bread should fail. The captives will be released. No more starvation or death. In the end time, many who have been deceived (in confusion), will come to the truth. There will be no death for those who follow Christ, because death has been defeated. (Follow Satan, and death will be for sure).
Isa 51:15 But I am the LORD thy God, that divided the sea, whose waves roared: The LORD of hosts is his name. The God who divided the Red Sea. (Psalm 136:13). Lord of hosts: "Yahveh." (Jeremiah 10:16), Father of the twelve tribes of Israel. (The savior of the world).
Isa 51:16 And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people. Reference to: (Deuteronomy 18:18, John 17:8, Revelation 1:1). God has put the words in our mouth through the Word, and uses us to bring others to the truth. (Hebrews 8:10).
Isa 51:17 Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, which hast drunk at the hand of the LORD the cup of his fury; thou hast drunken the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out. Listen-up Jerusalem! You have drunk the wine of God's wrath. (Zechariah 12:2, Revelation 14:10).
Isa 51:18 There is none to guide her among all the sons whom she hath brought forth; neither is there any that taketh her by the hand of all the sons that she hath brought up. No one left to guide you. i.e. like the blind leading the blind. (Matthew 15:14).
Isa 51:19 These two things are come unto thee; who shall be sorry for thee? desolation, and destruction, and the famine, and the sword: by whom shall I comfort thee? Two calamities have fallen on you: Desolation and destruction, famine and war. (No one left to comfort you, but Jesus Christ). "Let Christ be your comforter, through the Holy Spirit."
Isa 51:20 Thy sons have fainted, they lie at the head of all the streets, as a wild bull in a net: they are full of the fury of the LORD, the rebuke of thy God. (God taking care of business).
Isa 51:21 Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, but not with wine: Listen-up all you who are in a drunken stupor, but not from wine. (All those who are in the bondage of confusion).
Isa 51:22 Thus saith thy Lord the LORD, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thine hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the cup of my fury; thou shalt no more drink it again: Thy Lord the LORD: "Adoni Yahveh." No more drink it again: Referring to the final restoration of Israel.
Isa 51:23 But I will put it into the hand of them that afflict thee; which have said to thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thou hast laid thy body as the ground, and as the street, to them that went over. The cup of God's wrath will be given to the enemy. (The tormentors), those who have said, "we will trample you into dust and walk on your backs." Reference to: (Revelation 13:16-17). You don't want to be on the enemies side at the return of Christ.
Isaiah 52
Isa 52:1 Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean. Awake Zion: Message to "New Jerusalem. "A look to the future when Christ returns." Clothe yourself with strength. i.e. With Christ and the gospel armor. (Romans 13:14, Ephesians 6:10-11). Put on thy beautiful clothes: And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. (Revelation 19:8). Meaning pure because her deeds are pure. The righteous acts of the saints. The good deeds done by the people of God. Jerusalem the holy city: And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. (Revelation 21:2). The new city is the new government of the full God Head. Yahveh Shamma! (God with us or God is there). The last verse in the book of Ezekiel in English language. The Lord is there! (Ezekiel 48:35). The unclean: And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. (Revelation 21:27). Nothing evil, anyone immoral, or dishonest will not be permitted in. "Nothing left to defile." Only those written in the "Lamb's Book of Life" will be allowed to enter into the city. IS YOUR NAME IN THE BOOK? (Revelation 21:27).
Isa 52:2 Shake thyself from the dust; arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem: loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion. Break the yoke of bondage and come out of Babylon (confusion). (Jeremiah 51:6, Zechariah 2:6). And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. (Revelation 18:4). We are to come away from her and not take part in her sins.
Isa 52:3 For thus saith the LORD, Ye have sold yourselves for nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money. What God is saying here is that we have sold ourselves into sin for nothing, "no payment." Now He can redeem us without money. Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers. (1 Peter 1:18). It is not flesh body, material things, and traditions of men that will save you. "However, your salvation is paid for with a great price." But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. (1 Peter 1:19). It was the shedding of the blood of Christ. The sinless, spotless, "Lamb of God."
Isa 52:4 For thus saith the Lord GOD, My people went down aforetime into Egypt to sojourn there; and the Assyrian oppressed them without cause. Speaking of two previous times the people of God were in captivity. Reference to: (Genesis 46:6). The Assyrian: The first of a new king. Reference to: (Exodus 1:8), a new king that new not Joseph. Oppressed them: Refers to (Exodus 1), and has nothing to do with the later Assyrian carrying away. Without cause: For nothing, groundlessly. (Keep in mind that Isaiah is writing this one hundred years prior to the Babylonian captivity).
Isa 52:5 Now therefore, what have I here, saith the LORD, that my people is taken away for nought? they that rule over them make them to howl, saith the LORD; and my name continually every day is blasphemed. Why are My people enslaved again? Those who rule them (the oppressors), blaspheme My name all day long. For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written. (Romans 2:24). The scriptures say that the Gentiles blaspheme the name of God because of you. Reference to: (Ezekiel 36:20-23).
Isa 52:6 Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I. And so it is, God will reveal Himself. (Hebrews 8:10-11), all will know the name of the Lord.
Isa 52:7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth! How beautiful is the messenger who brings the good news. (Romans 10:12-15). Both John the Baptist and Christ were rejected and slain bringing the "Good News." Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. (Malachi 4:5). Elijah the prophet. If Israel had received the Messiah, John the Baptist would have been reckoned as Elijah. (Matthew 17:10-13, Mark 9:11-13). And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. (Malachi 4:6). John the Baptist came in the "Spirit and power of Elias" (Elijah), to turn the hearts of the "fathers" to the children. (Luke 1:16-17, 1:76). Notice that the word "fathers" is plural. There are two fathers in the end times. The false Christ (anti-Christ), and the true Christ (Jesus Christ). (Mark 13:14-26), who will you follow? The ultimate fulfillment will be when Christ returns at the second advent to rescue His people from the grips of the antichrist. (Zechariah 9:10, Revelation 11:15).
Isa 52:8 Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD shall bring again Zion. The watchmen see with their very eyes (face to face), the returning of the Lord (Jesus Christ), to Jerusalem. Watchmen: Reference to (Ezekiel 3:17, 33:7), Reference to teachers of the word. Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you. (Hebrews 13:17). Listen to a good teacher of the Word and learn. Their work is to watch over the children of God, and they are accountable to God for what they teach you. Remember, if you want to be a priest, pastor, or teacher of the Word, you have a great responsibility to the congregation and God will hold you responsible. (Judgment begins at the pulpit). "All Christians who know the truth are to be watchmen in the end times."
Isa 52:9 Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem. Redeemed Jerusalem and comforted His people. (Future prophecy of the end times).
Isa 52:10 The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. The whole world will see the return of Christ and the victory of our God. (Acts 13:47, Revelation 11:15, 14:6).
Isa 52:11 Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch no unclean thing; go ye out of the midst of her; be ye clean, that bear the vessels of the LORD. Come out of Babylon, "confusion." (Revelation 18:4). In application for us today: Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14). Don't partner up with unbelievers. (James 4:4), It is not a good mix, and they will just bring you down. (Psalm 106:35), "They want you to stumble!" However, you can be around unbelievers to plant a truth. That is what we are here for, to convert the unbeliever if possible. And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? (2 Corinthians 6:15). There is no harmony between Christ and the devil. So, how can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? (Mark 16:16). However, don't let this come between you and your spouse if one of you is a believer and one is not. As long as the unbeliever does not interfere with your faith in Christ, there is always a chance that the unbeliever will convert from being around you. (If it be God's will). And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. (2 Corinthians 6:16). There is no union between God's temple and idols! You don’t want idols in the temple of God. (Exodus 29:45, Leviticus 26:12 Jeremiah 23:29). We are temples and children of the living God! (Romans 9:26). Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, (2 Corinthians 6:17). Don't get to close to an unbeliever when all possible. You can be around them, but do not follow their ways of the world. (Proverbs 9:6). And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. (2 Corinthians 6:18). Follow God's wisdom and will and He will be your Heavenly Father and you will be His child. (Galatians 3:26, Revelation 21:7).
Isa 52:12 For ye shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight: for the LORD will go before you; and the God of Israel will be your rereward. Don't worry about fleeing for your lives. The Lord (Yahveh), will go ahead of you, and the God of Israel will protect you from behind. "God has His people covered."
Isa 52:13 Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high. My Servant: The Messiah. (Ezekiel 34:23, Zechariah 3:8, Philippians 2:7-8). Deal prudently: Execute judgment (Jeremiah 23:5). He will be highly exalted: Reference to the Messiah in the end times. (Revelation 5:6-13).
Isa 52:14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men: Referring to Christ's appearance at the crucifixion. Reference: Psalm 22:6-7, 22:15, 22:17, 102:3-5, Matthew 26:67, 27:29-30, Luke 22:64). You can read about the whole crucifixion in Psalm 22, that was written 1,000 years before the actual event.
Isa 52:15 So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider. Kings and rulers of many nations will be speechless in His presence. They will finally see what they have not been told or understand. (Romans 15:21).
Isaiah 53
Isa 53:1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? Who believes the message? Who has the Lord revealed His powerful arm? The call to believers (1 Corinthians 1:24, Ephesians 1:18-19).
Isa 53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He (Jesus Christ), grew up in the Lord's presence. He took on the form of a servant made in the likeness of men. (Philippians 2:6-7). Christ didn't care about titles, fancy robes and hats, or chains of gold and silver to attract Himself to others.
Isa 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. He (Messiah), despised and rejected: (Matthew 26:67, 27:39-44). Man of sorrows: He would suffer many things. ((Mark 9:12, Luke 9:22, Hebrews 12:2-3). His as it was our faces from Him: i.e. turned their backs on Him. (John 1:10-11).
Isa 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. After all this He had to endure, He still went on to take upon Himself all out grief's and sorrows. (Matthew 8:17, Galatians 3:13, Hebrews 9:28, 1 Peter 2:24). He did this not just for you my friend, but for the sins of the world. And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. (1 John 2:2). Christ is the atoning sacrifice that paid the price on the cross for our sins. All our sins and for the sins of the world. But, this is only for our sins of the past, not our future sins. Again, we will always fall short at times and we must repent for our sins on a regular basis.
Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Don't forget this verse in the bible. It explains exactly why Jesus came and died. Wounded for our transgressions: Jesus was pierced for our rebellion (Zechariah 13:7). Bruised for our iniquities: Crushed for our sins (1 Peter 3:18). Chastisement of our peace: He was beaten so we could be whole (Genesis 3:15, Isaiah 53:10). With His stripes we are healed: Jesus was whipped and beaten so that we could be healed (1 Peter 2:24).
Isa 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. The sheep have gone astray. We have left God's paths to follow our own. Now we are easy prey. (Ezekiel 34:5-6). However, God promised He would send a shepherd, and so it was. The Lord laid on Him the sins of us all. (Matthew 18:12-14, Luke 15:3-7, 1 Peter 2:25). It is so easy for people to go astray in this world, yet our Heavenly Father always opens the door for us to come back into the light; "The Light of the World," Jesus Christ.
Isa 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. Never cried, complained, or open His mouth, as He was led to the slaughter. (Acts 8:32-33).
Isa 53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. He was unjustly condemned and led away. (Matthew 26:65-66). His life was cut short compared to normal man. "Only in His early thirty's." (Acts 8:33). He was struck down for the rebellion of Hid own people. (1 Peter 3:18).
Isa 53:9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Made His grave with the wicked: Buried like a criminal. Put in a rich mans grave. He done no wrong. (1 Peter 2:22). Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands. (Hebrews 2:7). Christ came as a man lower than the angels for the suffering of death. (Hebrews 2:9), He defeated death so that every man, woman and child could have salvation.
Isa 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. As painful as it was, it was God's plan from the beginning that Jesus would be crucified. "Jesus was willing to do whatever the Father asked of Him." His seed would see the Kingdom of the Messiah. God's plan will prosper in His hands.
Isa 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. The Heavenly Father would be satisfied with all that was accomplished by His anguish. Why? Because Jesus made it possible for many to be counted righteous when He bear all their sins. "He would be the Savior of the world."
Isa 53:12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. God would give Him the honors of a victorious soldier, because He exposed Himself to death. Counted among the rebels and bare the sins of many. (Mark 15:28, Luke 22:37). Interceded for the transgressors. (Romans 8:34, Hebrews 7:25, 1 John 2:1). My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: (1 John 2:1). Jesus always taking up our defense, pleading our case.
Isaiah 54
Isa 54:1 Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD. Barren: Refers to Sarah. (Childless woman). The city of Jerusalem will have been a barren woman just as Sarah was. Now she would be able to give birth. (Prophecy partially fulfilled after the Jews returned from the Babylonian captivity). The Apostle Paul's message to this passage: For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband. (Galatians 4:27). In future prophecy: After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; (Revelation 7:9). Gentiles and Jews alike, and all peoples of the world of every race and kind, who stood before the throne of God. The palms were for the feast of tabernacles as stated in (Leviticus 23:39-41). And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. (Revelation 7:10). Salvation belongs to our Heavenly Father.
Isa 54:2 Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; Make your houses bigger and stronger.
Isa 54:3 For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited. Speaking of the Gentile nations here coming to the Lord.
Isa 54:4 Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more. No longer ashamed or confused. Shame from thy youth: Reference to Israel's days of idolatry. (Jeremiah 3:24-25).
Isa 54:5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called. The "Heavenly Father" will be your husband. (Jeremiah 3:14). Redeemer: Kinsman Redeemer. Reference to (Genesis 48:16, Exodus 6:6). Holy One of Israel; God of the whole earth: As in (Zechariah 6:5, 14:9, Revelation 11:15).
Isa 54:6 For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God. God calling you back from your grief like an abandoned wife. (Matthew 11:28).
Isa 54:7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. God gave Israel a bill of divorcement (Jeremiah 3:8), but later took her back.
Isa 54:8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer. Hid My face: Reference to (Deuteronomy 31:17-18, Isaiah 8:17, 53:3, 64:7).
Isa 54:9 For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee. God promised before that He would never destroy the earth by water. After the return of Christ in the second advent (after judgment day), He promises again, that Israel will never experience His wrath.
Isa 54:10 For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee. Heaven and earth may pass away, but His Words will not. (Matthew 24:35). His promise will never be broken.
Isa 54:11 O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires. Rebuild Jerusalem with precious jewels.
Isa 54:12 And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones. Beautiful shinning precious stones around all your borders.
Isa 54:13 And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children. All God's children will be taught and enjoy great peace. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. (John 6:45). It is written! 'They will all be taught by God.' Everyone who "listens" to the Heavenly Father and "learns" from Him comes to Christ. (Isaiah 2:3, Jeremiah 31:33-34, Micah 4:2).
Isa 54:14 In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee. Safe and secure under a righteous government.
Isa 54:15 Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake. They: Nations (the enemies of Israel), will come against Israel, but they won't be sent by Him. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. (Revelation 16:14). There will be visible miracles to see by these demons as they gather for battle against the Lord. The Apostle Paul warns us of this coming day. (II Thessalonians 2:1-9). These kings of the earth are the ones who form the one world system. (The earthly kings).
Isa 54:16 Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy. God created the men who makes the weapons, and the ones who use the weapons. (Proverbs 16:4). i.e. "God is in control."
Isa 54:17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD. No weapon that comes against you will succeed. Every voice raised up against you will be silenced. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord. (No need to worry if you are one of God's elect). The Lord has spoken. Are you a servant of the Lord?
Isaiah 55
Isa 55:1 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. If you are thirsty for God's Word, it's there for those who want it. (Matthew 26:29, 1 Peter 2:2). You can't buy God's Word or your way into heaven, the truth is freely given and freely received. (Isaiah 52:3, Romans 3:24). We are saved by grace through faith, not by man or yourself, or how much you can give. (Ephesians 2:4-8).
Isa 55:2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. Don't waste your money on churches teaching false teachings and traditions of men. (The corruption and practice of the natural man). Rather listen to those who teach the truth in God's Word. Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. (John 6:27). Let Christ be your true bread of life. (John 6:48:58).
Isa 55:3 Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. Come to Christ and open your ears. Listen and you will find life. (Everlasting life). You will receive all the unfailing love He promised to David. (2 Samuel 7:8-16). Quoted in (Acts 13:34), Assured by oath to David. (Psalm 132:11).
Isa 55:4 Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people. Him: Messiah, not David. Jesus would be the "House of David."
Isa 55:5 Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee. Israel being addressed here. (The Jews would be used to reach out to the nations, the Gentiles).
Isa 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Seek God and you will find Him. (Matthew 7:7-8).
Isa 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Let the wicked change their ways. Even if the wicked seek out the Lord and change their ways, He will forgive them.
Isa 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. You can't compare man's thoughts to those of God. God's ways are far beyond the imagination of man.
Isa 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Man gets excited thinking about "Star-Trek" and "Star-Wars," But God created the universe.
Isa 55:10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: Just as the rain and snow come down from heaven and stay on the ground to water the earth. This causes the grain to grow producing good seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry.
Isa 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. The same is with God's Word. He sends it out, and it always produces good fruit. It will accomplish what God wants and it will prosper everywhere God sends it. (Ephesians 1:9-11).
Isa 55:12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Go out: Go forth from the lands of your wandering. Are you wandering around in confusion? No need to, you can live in peace and joy. We are justified by faith. (Romans 5:1, 5:11, 15:13).
Isa 55:13 Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off. When Christ returns at the second advent there will be no more curse for the earth. The same goes those who are like brier. The best of them is as a brier: the most upright is sharper than a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen and thy visitation cometh; now shall be their perplexity. (Micah 7:4). Even the best of them and the most upright are as dangerous as a hedge of thorns. (Hebrews 6:8), Those who do not follow the guidance by Christ and the Holy Spirit of truth, but would rather listen to man and false teachings. (In other words, those who do not produce good fruit).
Isaiah 56
Isa 56:1 Thus saith the LORD, Keep ye judgment, and do justice: for my salvation is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed. Listen-up! God is telling us to be just and fair to all. Christ is coming soon to rescue the people from confusion. He wants us to be prepared. (Matthew 3:2, 4:17, Mark 1:15).
Isa 56:2 Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil. Blessed are those (Revelation 22:14), who are careful to do this. Those who honor the Lord's Sabbath days of rest and keep from doing wrong. Reference to: (Exodus 20:8-11), one of the ten commandments. The Sabbath (Saturday), was changed to Sunday by part of the early church (The Papacy). However, Because of Christ, we have the freedom to worship any day. One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. (Romans 14:5). In other words, lets not make a religion out of a special day of worship. God will accept any day you worship. He loves any day that you get into His Word. Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. (Hebrews 4:1). God's promise of rest still stands. But, some of you may not experience it. This word rest is "katapausis" Strong's G2663 "abode." You will find your rest in Christ through the Holy Spirit that dwells within you.
Isa 56:3 Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the LORD, speak, saying, The LORD hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree. Never let foreigners say that the Gentile people are not part of God's people. And don't let the eunuchs (high officials and overseers of the king that stayed single), say I have no future.
Isa 56:4 For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant; The Lord says: I will bless those eunuchs who keep My Sabbath days holy, and those who choose to do what pleases me. Do you want to please God? Here is a scripture that sums it all up: If ye love me, keep my commandments. (John 14:15). The condition is, that if you love Jesus, you will keep His commandments. (I John 2:3-4, I John 5:3), Loving God means doing what He tells us to do. His commandments are the truth and the truth shall set you free. Never let anyone put you in bondage with their rules, regulations, and traditions of men.
Isa 56:5 Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off. God will give the eunuch a name far greater than sons and daughters could give. "An everlasting name that will never disappear." (Revelation 3:5). "The true Christian."
Isa 56:6 Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant; The sons of the stranger: (foreigners or Gentiles), who commit themselves to the Lord and serve Him. "Every one that keeps the Sabbath," and holds fast to the Lords covenant. (The actual Sabbath day of worship is still kept by some denominations). However, most Christians find their Sabbath (rest), in Christ.
Isa 56:7 Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people. Holy Mountain: Mount Zion, the Temple of Christ when He returns. He will accept our sacrifices. By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. (Hebrews 13:15). Give all the glory to God in everything you do and give thanks in Jesus name! "Christ always thanked the Father." (Matthew 11:25). But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. (Hebrews 13:16). Always try to do good and share the truth with those in need, and you will always please God. (Galatians 6:6).
Isa 56:8 The Lord GOD which gathereth the outcasts of Israel saith, Yet will I gather others to him, beside those that are gathered unto him. God calls who ever He wills. (John 10:16). He is not only the God of Israel, but the God of the World. (John 11:52). He loves all His children. Especially those who follow His ways.
Isa 56:9 All ye beasts of the field, come to devour, yea, all ye beasts in the forest. The verses before were future, now we are closer to Isaiah's time. God calling the pagan nations to devour His people. (Jeremiah 12:9).
Isa 56:10 His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber. Watchmen are blind: The leaders of Israel are dozing and dreaming instead of being watchmen. i.e. They were flat out Lazy.
Isa 56:11 Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter. They are like greedy dogs that are never satisfied. Ignorant shepherd's following their own path for personal gain. Do you know any churches like that? Their leaders always asking for donations.
Isa 56:12 Come ye, say they, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and to morrow shall be as this day, and much more abundant. Party on all the time, day after day, never coming to the truth. What does your church teach? How are you doing my friend?
Isaiah 57
Isa 57:1 The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. Did you ever here the phrase; "only the good die young?" That is what is said here, but no one seems to understand why. If they were righteous, God is protecting them from the evil to come. (This has nothing to do with rapture as many believe). Referred to the calamity in: (Jeremiah 22:10, 2 Kings 22:16-20).
Isa 57:2 He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness. Those who follow godly paths will rest in peace when they die.
Isa 57:3 But draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the whore. God compares those who commit Idolatry (the worship of other gods), to a person being unfaithful to their spouse.
Isa 57:4 Against whom do ye sport yourselves? against whom make ye a wide mouth, and draw out the tongue? are ye not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood, Those who mock God. Children of sinners and liars. (The wicked seed). (Genesis 3:15, Hosea 1:2, Matthew 12:34, 1 John 3:10). Christ would say: Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John 8:44). Now Christ tells them another truth. "You are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. He is the father of lies." Wow, what a statement. Lets analyze this for a minute. Who was the first murderer? It was Cain. He was from the seed of Satan all the way back to the garden and Adam and Eve. For a better understanding, read our newsletter study topic titled "Son of Cain," and you will find that there are children of the devil. "The Kenites."
Isa 57:5 Enflaming yourselves with idols under every green tree, slaying the children in the valleys under the clifts of the rocks? Worshipping idols beneath sacred trees. Slaying the children: Reference to (Leviticus 18:21); to Molech (1 Kings 11:7, 2 Kings 17:16-17); or to Baal (Jeremiah 19:5, Ezekiel 16:20, 23:39, Hosea 13:1).
Isa 57:6 Among the smooth stones of the stream is thy portion; they, they are thy lot: even to them hast thou poured a drink offering, thou hast offered a meat offering. Should I receive comfort in these? Your gods are smooth stones in the valleys and they will be your only inheritance. A waste of time. God is saying, do you think this makes Me happy?
Isa 57:7 Upon a lofty and high mountain hast thou set thy bed: even thither wentest thou up to offer sacrifice. You have committed Idolatry everywhere, on every high mountain you worship idols and have been unfaithful.
Isa 57:8 Behind the doors also and the posts hast thou set up thy remembrance: for thou hast discovered thyself to another than me, and art gone up; thou hast enlarged thy bed, and made thee a covenant with them; thou lovedst their bed where thou sawest it. You have your pagan idols and symbols everywhere in your house. You commit yourselves to them just like a marriage.
Isa 57:9 And thou wentest to the king with ointment, and didst increase thy perfumes, and didst send thy messengers far off, and didst debase thyself even unto hell. You travel to far lands to find news gods to love and try to make yourselves look so good.
Isa 57:10 Thou art wearied in the greatness of thy way; yet saidst thou not, There is no hope: thou hast found the life of thine hand; therefore thou wast not grieved. You grew weary, but never give up on your search for new gods. Always trying to get to heaven, but their going to hell.
Isa 57:11 And of whom hast thou been afraid or feared, that thou hast lied, and hast not remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of old, and thou fearest me not? You no longer fear God because you have gone to far on your own. (Trusting in idols and false gods).
Isa 57:12 I will declare thy righteousness, and thy works; for they shall not profit thee. All your false gods will be exposed. (None of them can help you).
Isa 57:13 When thou criest, let thy companies deliver thee; but the wind shall carry them all away; vanity shall take them: but he that putteth his trust in me shall possess the land, and shall inherit my holy mountain; Lets see how your idols can save you when you cry for help. They will be knocked down like a puff of wind. Even preachers and priests today that teach traditions of men are like a puff of wind that will not stand.
Isa 57:14 And shall say, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the stumblingblock out of the way of my people. Get your act together and cast out all the junk you listen to and return to Me. (Return to the truth in the word).
Isa 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. God restores the crushed spirit of the humble. He will revive the courage of those with a repentant heart. (Luke 4:18, 2 Corinthians 1:4).
Isa 57:16 For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made. You may get a little pressure from God at times when you need it, but He will not continue it, or all people would pass away. (He lightens up when you learn your lesson).
Isa 57:17 For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him: I hid me, and was wroth, and he went on frowardly in the way of his heart. I punished these greedy people and then withdrew from them, but they kept going on with their own stubborn ways. (Never coming to repentance for their sins).
Isa 57:18 I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners. However, God will heal the humble and comfort those who mourn.
Isa 57:19 I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him. Not only will God heal them, but He will bring praise to their lips. (Hebrews 13:15). He will also give many a mouth of wisdom. (Luke 21:15).
Isa 57:20 But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. Those who reject God are like the restless sea that churns up mud. No truth in them and they will have no peace.
Isa 57:21 There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked. No rest for the wicked! (Romans 3:16-17).
Isaiah 58
Isa 58:1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins. God telling Isaiah to speak up and shout with a loud voice. Tell the people of their sins against Me.
Isa 58:2 Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God. They look and act so pious! They act so righteous and say, we obey God's law. They pretend to be near God and ask Him to take action on their behalf. (a bunch of hypocrites).
Isa 58:3 Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours. They fast and may have abstained form food, but they still enjoy their other pleasures. They fast to please themselves, not God.
Isa 58:4 Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard on high. What good is your fasting when you keep on fighting and quarreling? This kind of fasting will get you nowhere with God. When you fast, it is between you and the Heavenly Father, it is not for everyone to know when you are doing it. (That's playing church).
Isa 58:5 Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD? You go through the motions of bowing your heads and dress for the part. i.e. Put on a good show for everyone else, but your heart is not truly in it. Jesus would address the people and the Pharisees about this kind of behavior. Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, (Matthew 23:1). Addressed the whole crowd of people and His disciples at this time. Saying The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: (Matthew 23:2). Moses was the law giver. (Deuteronomy 5,6). The Scribes and Pharisees were changing the law so much they thought they were Moses. (More traditions of men). Sound familiar? All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. (Matthew 23:3). Kind of like do as I say, not as I do. They talk about the Word and put on a good show, but they are not doing it God's way. For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. (Matthew 23:4). They load you up with impossible demands that they can't even keep themselves. Never let anyone put you in bondage by their by-laws and traditions. But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments. (Matthew 23:5). All done for show. They act holy by wearing little charms or prayer boxes and long fancy robes.
Isa 58:6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? Here is what spiritual fasting is about: Free the innocent, lighten the burden of those who work for you. Free the oppressed and remove the chains that bind the people and put them in bondage. i.e. Bring the people to the truth and lead them to Jesus, not a bunch of rituals, junk, and traditions of men.
Isa 58:7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? True fasting is to share what (God has given you) with others. Shelter to the homeless, clothes to them that are in need, and do not hide yourself from relatives that may need help. (i.e. practice what you preach).
Isa 58:8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward. If fasting is done correctly, your salvation will come like the dawn (Proverbs 4:18), and your wounds will quickly heal. "Your spiritual wounds." (Matthew 13:15). Your righteousness will lead you forward and the Lord will protect you from behind. (Psalm 85:13, Acts 10:35). (God always has your back).
Isa 58:9 Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; Do it God's way; then when you call on Him, He will answer. "Remove the heavy yoke of oppression." (i.e. stop pointing fingers and spreading vicious rumors). (Psalm 12:2).
Isa 58:10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday: Feed the hungry (not only physically, but those spiritually starving for truth), and help those in trouble (those who are deceived by false teachings and traditions of men), then your light will shine out from the darkness. "We are to be a light to the world." (Matthew 5:14-16).
Isa 58:11 And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. The Lord will guide you and restore your strength along the way. Through the "Holy Spirit," shall come a river of "living water." Christ would say: He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (John 7:38). Anyone who believes in Jesus may come and drink! "The scriptures say it; rivers of living water will flow from His heart." He is, and will be, the Source of all spiritual blessings. (Isaiah 12:3, Isaiah 44:3, Isaiah 55:1, Isaiah 58:11, Ezekiel 47:1).
Isa 58:12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. Future prophecy for the rebuilding of Jerusalem. For us now, we can help rebuild the broken hearted and confused, by leading them back to the truth and the ways of the Lord.
Isa 58:13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: On your worship day, put aside time for the Lord. Don't just do things for your own enjoyment.
Isa 58:14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. The Lord will then be your delight. Cause thee to ride upon high places: Reference to (Deuteronomy 32:13, Habakkuk 3:19). Heritage of Jacob thy father: Reference to (Jeremiah 3:19). We can and will experience the promise land, God just wants us to call Him "Father."
Keep The Faith,Barton
