Jude was a servant of Jesus Christ and the brother of James. Written as early as A.D. 41-46, some say A.D. 70-80. Jude is the English for Judas (loudas), the Greek form of Judah (to give thanks). The English version is used to disassociate Jude from Judas Iscariot. Jude was said to be the half-brother to Jesus, as was spoken of in (Matthew 13:55). The book of Jude was basically written to Christians who were infiltrated by false teachers who perverted the message of grace, and is relating to many churches of today.
Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied. May God give you more and more mercy, peace and love.
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. I was planning to write you about the salvation we share, but now I find that I must write you about defending the faith.
For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. Ungodly people and false teachers have wormed their way into the churches. They lead you to believe that the grace of God allows us to live immoral lives. Peter would write about the same concerns in his second letter. But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. (2 Peter 2:1). There were false prophets in Israel in that day, just as there are false teachers among us today.
I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. Just a reminder to you that the Lord first rescued the nation of Israel from Egypt, but later He destroyed those who did not remain faithful. (Numbers 14), the rebellion of the people and God's punishment of Israel.
And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. We are referring to (Genesis 6:1-2), beings from the spirit world (Nephilim) the fallen angels, looked upon the beautiful woman and took any they desired to be their wives. God has kept them securely chained in prison of darkness waiting for the great day of judgment. (2 Peter 2:4). Read our newsletter study topic titled "The Fallen Angels" for a better understanding.
Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. The reason Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed was because of the immorality and every kind of sexual perversion. (2 Peter 2:6). An example to us for those who live ungodly lives. (Look at the sexual perversion going on in the world today).
Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. Those who claim authority with their dreams live immoral lives themselves. They defy authority and blaspheme. (2 Peter 2:10). Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. for there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. (Romans 13:1). We are to obey our government laws just as God's laws.
Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. Even Michael the archangel did not accuse the devil of blasphemy, but simply said, "The Lord rebuke you." (Michael was arguing with the devil about the body of Moses). Satan wanted the body of Moses, but God took him, and the body of Moses has never been found. However, he was seen in the transfiguration by Peter, James, and John, when Jesus appeared talking with Moses and Elias. (Matthew 17:1-3).
But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves. They scoff at things they do not understand and bring about their own destruction. (2 Peter 2:12). These false teachers are like unthinking animals that are born to be caught and destroyed. They profess themselves to be wise, but are just a bunch of fools. (Romans 1:21-22).
Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core. They follow the footsteps of Cain who was the first murderer. Like Balaam, they deceive people for money and loved the wages of unrighteousness. (2 Peter 2:15, Revelation 2:14).
These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots. Even when they fellowship with you they are a dangerous and shameless people who only care for themselves. (Ephesians 4:14, 2 Peter 2:18-20). They lead the people to false doctrines and traditions of men. (Look around and you will see it in many churches today).
Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever. Like wild waves and wandering stars doomed for darkness. (Revelation 8:10-11, 14:10-11, 20:10). Those who receive the beast mark in the end times.
And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints. Enoch prophesied about these people, and he walked with God. Enoch lived 365 years before God took him. (Genesis 5:23-24). The Lord is coming in the end times with a countless number of His holy ones. (Matthew 16:27, 24:30-31, 25:31, 1 Thessalonians 3:13, 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8, Revelation 1:7).
To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. Judgment day for the ungodly people of the world. (Matthew 12:31-37, Revelation 13:5-6, 13:11). Again, for those who are deceived, receive the mark of the beast, and follow the antichrist.
These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage. A bunch of grumblers and complainers that live only to satisfy their desires. They brag about themselves and flatter others to get what they want. A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet. (Proverbs 29:5). Do you know any people like that? "Beware of smiling faces."
But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. Remember what the apostles warned you about. (2 Peter 3:2).
How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. They told you about the end times when there would be scoffers (false teachers), whose purpose in life is to satisfy their own ungodly desires. (2 Timothy 3:1-5, 3:13, 4:3, 2 Peter 2:1, 3:3).
These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. They create division among you because they follow their natural instincts. "They do not have God's Spirit in them." (1 Corinthians 2:14, Romans 8:9). (Flesh man cannot receive the things of God, only the spiritual man).
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost. Build up each other in your faith. (1 Thessalonians 5:11).
Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Hold fast to the love of the Lord who will bring you eternal life. (Romans 6:23).
And of some have compassion, making a difference. Have compassion towards those who waver from the truth. (James 5:19-20).
And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. You can help others and have compassion for them when they are living in sin; but be careful not to be pulled in by the sins that contaminate their lives. (1 Corinthians 15:33). Bad company can corrupt a good character. (Watch who you hang with).
Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy. Only God and the Holy Spirit can keep you from evil and falling away from the faith. And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. (2 Timothy 4:18).
To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. All the glory going to God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are His. (Before time, during this time, and forever into the future). Amen. "That's That." (2 Peter 3:18, Revelations 4:9-11, 5:13-14).
