When Jesus said, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." (Matthew 22:21, Mark 12:17). He was establishing a principle that we owe loyalty to two spheres. We as Christians need to be loyal to God and His laws first, which is the higher royalty, and we also need to be loyal to the government and civil laws.
Keep in mind that no political party is better than the other, or that one is good and one is evil. We are all sinners and fall short of God's glorious standard. (Romans 3:23-24). The Apostle Paul would tell us that we need to obey civil laws and to pay our taxes to whom they are owed. (Romans 13:6-7). This is why we pay taxes, for the authorities are supposed to be God's servants. However, in our government today it seems that they do not know who they serve. Paul goes even deeper saying pay revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, and honor to whom honor is owed.
Voters beware! One of Satan's bigest deceptions is that we can put our trust for cultural morality and Godly living in politicians and government officials. The hope for a nations change is not found in governmental ruling class, but rather in the words we so much ignore in these end times. "IN GOD WE TRUST." The church's purpose given by God does not lie in political activism. No where in scripture does it say we should spend our time, or money in governmental affairs. The mission of the church and Christians is not to change the nation through political reform, but rather change the hearts of people through the Word of God.
